32-bit Windows 10 on Sunset Avenue: 64-bit Windows 10 only on pre-assembled notebooks and PCs

Windows 10 20H1 May 2020 Update could revive older computers: here's how

Microsoft announced that upcoming versions of Windows 10, starting with the May 2020 Update coming this month, they will no longer be available as a 32-bit build for new OEM PCs (notebooks, pre-assembled desktops, etc.). All new OEM PCs will therefore have to install a 64-bit version of the operating system.

"Starting with Windows 10 version 2004, all new Windows 10 systems will require the use of 64-bit builds and Microsoft will no longer release 32-bit builds for OEM distribution. This will have no impact on 32-bit consumer systems made with previous versions of Windows 10; Microsoft remains committed to offering feature and security updates on these devices, as well as ensuring the availability of 32-bit media on non-OEM channels to support various update installation scenarios. "

Microsoft will therefore continue to update PCs with 32-bit Windows 10 and offer builds on the retail channel, but in the not-so-distant future we will see thegoodbye to 32 bits in favor of 64 bits, with benefits for both Microsoft itself and the developers. At the moment it is not clear how many PCs with 32-bit Windows 10 in the world, but now the spread should be somewhat limited: a partial picture comes from Steam's hardware and software statistics, where 32-bit Windows 10 is at 0.20 %, compared to approximately 86% of Windows 10 64-bit.
