As long as you are using many applications and many processes of each application are running at the same time, this will eventually crash the system or slow down the system performance and all of a sudden you will get the error “The application is not responding”. This means that the currently running application crashed and you will not be able to close it either. That’s when the task manager role comes in, who can finish the program for you. But there are many ways to close an application and in this article we will show you how you can close any application using final task on Windows 11 system.
Method 1: by Task Manager
Paso 1: Open Task Manager
press CTRL + MAYÚS + ESC keys together on your keyboard.
O
Right click on Windows Start button and select Task Manager of the list.
Paso 2: In the Task Manager window
At Processes tab, you can see that there are many applications listed under Applications currently running.
To close any application, select the application and right click on it (for example: – Calculator application)
Then click Final task from the context menu.
This will close the application properly if it is not responding.
Method 2: from keyboard shortcut
To close the application, in case the task manager is not responding / not working, there is a keyboard shortcut.
First of all, select the application by clicking on the application window and press ALT + F4 keys together until the app closes.
This is the first and easiest method to finish any unresponsive task.
Method 3: end the task using the command prompt
Paso 1: Open Command Prompt app as administrator
press To win key on your keyboard and type cmd.
Then right click on the Symbol of the system application and select Execute as an administrator.
Paso 2: In the command prompt tool
To see all running applications, run the following command.
Writes things to do and hit Get into wrench.

To close an application, we will use the TASKKILL command here.
As an example, we are trying to close Calculator application (PID = 23316).
Writes TASKKILL / PID 23316 / F
If you need to close many applications, type TASKKILL / PID 23316 1048 1592 1040 / F
where 1048, 1592, 1040 are PIDs of other applications and /F is to terminate the application by force.
Finally, hit Get into wrench.
Note:- You should check the PID for any application at the command prompt every time you try to run the above command because the PID changes when you try to restart it.
This will close all applications whose PIDs are mentioned in the TASKKILL command.
Method 4: terminate any application using desktop shortcut
Paso 1: Go to the desktop by pressing Win + D keys together.
Then right-click on the desktop screen and select New > Shortcut.
Paso 2: In the Enter the location of the item field
Copy and paste the following path as below.
