a16z leads second dirty token for NEAR Protocol

NEAR Protocol, a PoS blockchain for creating decentralized applications, has raised $ 21.6 million during a second token sale led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).

WhileAndreessen Horowitz recently doubled its investments in blockchain and crypto technologies with the launch of a $ 515 million new fund, the popular venture capital firm has just made an investment in NEAR, a Proof of Stake (PoS) blockchain protocol.

The terms of the agreement were defined by a16z which has been joined by other venture capital firms such as Pantera Capital, Libertus, Blockchange, Animal Ventures, Distributed Global or Capital Rating, precise Coindesk.

Launch of the NEAR Protocol mainnet

Following this new funding, NEAR announced the deployment of its MainNet network. The start-up is developing a blockchain to create and host decentralized applications (DApps).

According to its CEO, Erik Trautman, the protocol "works in a design space similar toEthereum 2.0 to come up ".

Today, we are delighted to announce a major step towards accomplishing this mission: the genesis of the NEAR MainNet protocol has taken place and the network has already produced a million blocks, ”the startup wrote on his blog.

Similar to the future Ethereum, the network uses the sharding, a method that breaks down the blockchain into different servers or fragments. Instead of processing all transactions, each node only processes transactions for a particular fragment, providing more scalability.
