[AKT.] Athlon 200GE - another ace up AMD's sleeve

In the SiSoftware Sandra database, an entry for another APU from red was found. However, this is not another representative of the Ryzen Raven Ridge series, but a slightly worn-out Athlon generation. In other words, meet the Athlon 200GE.

UPDATE

ASUS has confirmed that the Athlon 200GE is indeed being developed and will be released in two versions (thanks to Benchmark.pl). We are talking about consumer and business, which has additional security mechanisms. However, regardless of the purpose, it will offer 2 cores and 4 threads clocked at 3.2 GHz. The L3 cache decks are to be 4 MB, and the TDP is 35 W.

Currently, on the market of really budget processors, we will not find any fresh proposals from AMD. Although everyone considered Ryzen 3 chips to be representatives of this segment, their price was nothing like Celerons or Pentiums. This may soon change, because the specification of the discovered Athlon 200GE fits perfectly under this concept.

According to the aforementioned entry, the Athlon 200GE has two physical cores with support for SMT technology with a clock speed of 3.2 GHz. Each of them has 512 KB of L2 cache and 4 MB of L3 memory, which they share with each other. It is not known whether it will use technologies like Precision Boost or XFR, which can be found in Ryzen, but it is possible due to its architecture, which is probably based on Zen or Zen +.

Importantly, right next to the silicon CPU core, there is also an integrated Radeon Vega 3 graphics chip. This one has 3 CU blocks, which translates into 192 stream processors. As for its TDP, it was designated only 35 W, which is confirmed by the marking itself, where the letter “E“Means energy-saving products.

The leak itself is interesting because AMD has never produced any APU in the Athlon series. So we can think that this chip will appear on the market, but with a changed name … unless the company plans to refresh one of its lines. Either way, the Athlon 200GE would be another well-placed blow to the competition, and its specification proves that it would fight for a place on the podium with processors like Penituma G4560.

However, one should not forget about the very source of this rumor. Even the suggested release date and price have not been disclosed, so we should not draw far-reaching conclusions right now. Although the Athlon 200GE would fit perfectly into the AMD offer, we traditionally have to wait for official information.
