The technology consisted of the core of a discrete video card and CPU cores, the address space of RAM was divided separately for the computational tasks of graphics and processor cores, at that time it was the only technology that has no alternative solutions from competitors. The advantages of this implementation are obvious. On the one hand, low power consumption, on the other hand, the high performance of the discrete video core, which has no analogues among competitors. But there are also disadvantages in this approach, they relate to delays (latency) between the processor cores and the video adapter due to the different address space of RAM used.

New generation of family processors A10 works on a new principle, instead of separate cores, separate modules began to be used. The company completely abandoned the concept of multi-core processors, starting to use the Steamroller multi-module architecture, modified for parallel computing and the latest generation of graphics cores GCN (Graphics Core Next). They are also installed in the current lines of discrete video adapters of the R7 / R9 family, which allows, if desired, the use of AMD Dual Graphics technology (the list of compatible video adapters is available on the processor manufacturer’s website). In addition, the memory address space is no longer shared and is used simultaneously by processor and integrated video cores, which greatly simplifies work in high-level programming languages ​​and models such as OpenCL, C ++, Phyton, Java and others. The results of the above innovations will be visible only after a certain time, because. the advantages of the architecture should be appreciated by the software developers.

However, overclocking also does not add tangible performance, although at settings below “normal” the gameplay is quite good without any significant changes in picture quality.

AMD has released a rather promising architecture, the advantages of which are already visible today. Despite the mediocre results in synthetic tests, quite good performance in gaming applications is visible, which allows not very demanding users to opt for this line of processors. But do not forget, the integrated video card requires more expensive memory with a high frequency.

The processor on the bench motherboard, after raising the frequency, could not pass a series of tests. These include PC Mark and X.264. Stock cooling does not cope well with increasing the frequency of the tested instance, so when installing this processor, we recommend using a more efficient cooling system, even despite the rather low heat pack.
