AMD and Nvidia are investing heavily for the year 2022

In connection with the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the work at home trend took a giant step, according to some observers, with a full 5-10 years. As part of this, sales of computers skyrocketed, benefiting virtually all companies that make large and small components for computers. At the same time, the actors behind the world’s data center continued to shout for more computing power.

When the worst of the pandemic has subsided, there are those who track lower growth and a rebound, but far from all share that view. Two that see real growth in 2022 are AMD and Nvidia. Now the industry magazine Digitimes reports that the duo for 2022 has increased their orders with the contract manufacturer TSMC by as much as 30 percent compared to 2021.

From AMD’s point of view, it is mainly a matter of manufacturing more circuits on TSMC’s 7-nanometer technology, which is used for all of AMD’s processors and graphics cards from the latest generation. In addition, the magazine writes about 6 nanometers, which is believed to be used for Rembrandt – a processor for laptops with the architecture Zen 3, which in addition will be the first to integrate the graphics architecture RDNA 2.

AMD’s order to TSMC also includes production of 5 nanometers, which by the end of 2022 will lay the foundation for the architecture Zen 4 and the next generation graphics card with the architecture RDNA 3. Here, too, Nvidia jumps on the bandwagon with the architecture Lovelace after making a detour to Samsung, which on its 8-nanometer technology has had a hard time delivering enough circuits for the Geforce RTX 3000 series.

AMD and Nvidia are not the only ones who believe in good growth, but names such as Apple, Qualcomm, Mediatek and Intel are also mentioned. Together, they are forecast to form a large part of TSMC’s growth for 2022, as sales for the full year are forecast to grow by 15 percent.
