AMD announces 64-core desktop processors and Ryzen 4000 ultra-thin laptop series

LAS VEGAS – CES 2020 – January 6, 2020 – Today, AMD announced the first 8-core x86 processors for ultra-thin laptops as part of the AMD Ryzen ™ 4000 Series family of mobile processors, built on the iconic “Zen 2”, a core architecture with innovative processing technology at 7 nm and optimized Radeon ™ graphic performance in an SOC design. Like the third generation of AMD Ryzen mobile processors, the new 4000 Series provides unprecedented levels of performance, significant design improvements and incredible energy efficiency for ultra-thin and gaming laptops.

AMD also announced the 3000 Series of AMD Athlon ™ mobile processors, powered by the “Zen” architecture, enabling modern computing experiences with real performance for a wide range of notebook users. Consumers will be able to buy the first laptops powered by the Ryzen 4000 Series and the Athlon 3000 Series from manufacturers such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo and others, from the first quarter of 2020, with more systems to be released at throughout 2020 with OEM partners globally.

In addition, AMD announced the highly anticipated AMD Ryzen ™ Threadripper ™ 3990X with 64 cores and 128 threads, which will be available worldwide from February 7, 2020. Designed to enable extreme 3D performance, visual effects and professional videos, The 3990X delivers renders up to 51% more agile than Ryzen Threadripper 3970X processors.

By deploying 8 cores and 16 threads, the U Series of Ryzen 4000 processors provide incredible responsiveness and portability, delivering great performance for ultra-thin laptops with a configurable 15W TDP. In addition, with more than 90 million players and creators on laptop, the H Series Ryzen 4000 mobile processors set a new standard for gaming and content creation for innovative, thin and light laptops with a configurable 45W TDP.

AMD also released the highly anticipated Ryzen Threadripper 3990X, the first 64-core desktop processor. Creators around the world can purchase this industry-leading processor with participating retail partners worldwide and system integrators, available from February 7, 2020.

With a pioneering number in terms of simple socket computing performance on a desktop platform, AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor will be the ultimate solution for professional digital content creators working with 3D animation, VFX raytrace and 8K video codecs, offering :
