AMD announces it has received all approvals to acquire Xilinx, the acquisition will take place this Monday

AMD officially announced that after almost a year and a half, it finally managed to receive all the approvals to complete the Xilinx acquisition. With all the legal part resolved, AMD expects to complete the transaction next Monday, February 14. This was reported by the company:

SILICON VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) announced today that it has received all necessary regulatory approval to proceed with the acquisition of Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX).

With the exception of the remaining customary closing conditions, all conditions for closing of the transaction have been met and the company expects the transaction to close on or about February 14, 2022.

AMD announced its intent to acquire Xilinx in an all-stock transaction on October 27, 2020. The transaction brings together two industry leaders with complementary product and customer portfolios, combining CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, adaptive SoCs and a deep software expertise to enable leading computing platforms for cloud, edge, and smart end devices.

In this way, AMD will add to its portfolio the entire catalog of products and patents of Xilinx, a company specialized in FPGAs and Adaptive SOCs. Combining all the talent from both companies, we are sure to see a lot of exciting products from AMD following this acquisition, so we look forward to seeing what products come out of this acquisition.

What did AMD have to do to get it approved?

While most authorities approved this purchase without any special requests, Chinese authorities did place some requests with AMD. The main ones are that Xilinx products must be compatible with the AMD Instruction Set Architecture, being compatible with all software designed for AMD, and that the combined entity maintain compatibility with the products of both companies currently available in the Chinese market. , in order to continue using them.

Possibly AMD had already planned to carry out both actions anyway, so it was not a very demanding request, and in this way, it obtained final approval from China to proceed with the purchase.

What do you think about the purchase of Xilinx by AMD? What products do you think will come out of this merger?
