AMD confirms its focus is on Servers and Laptops, desktop PCs last

In the words of AMD CFO Devinder Kumar, AMD’s priority is to focus on producer for laptops and servers, rather than desktop PC products.

AMD has seen financial growth in recent years, seeing its focus on desktops and servers. In fact, AMD surpassed 10% of the server market, despite being new to the field. The company also had a “boom” with its Ryzen processors, which have been big competitors to Intel in recent years.

Recall that the company returned to the laptop processor market with the departure of Renoir in 2020 and Cezanne in 2021. We also know that the company plans to launch Rembrandt in 2022.

At the Technology Summit de Deutsche Bank, AMD’s Devinder Kumar spoke about the company’s vision for the next few years. During the talk he said that AMD’s goal is to focus on laptops and servers.

“Our highest priority is to secure our revenue, so there will be a sequential strategy in terms of products, with server products and laptop processors coming first, followed by high-end desktop processors.” said Devinder Kumar, AMD’s chief financial officer.

With the increase in demand for notebooks, coupled with the need for server capabilities, we can understand the company’s shift in focus. Still, AMD is not going to neglect the market we already know.

We know that AMD has already started mass production of the Rembrandt series. Series that will replace the current Ryzen 5000.

Additionally, Intel, AMD and NVIDIA have already secured TSMC 5nm nodes for the next generations. Without a doubt, the company will continue to compete and provide desktop products as we are used to.

We’ll see if they manage to increase their share of the laptop and server market with this shift in focus. These changes will only have results in 2-3 or perhaps more years. We will be attentive to all the movements of the company to see its progress on these products.

Do you think AMD will be able to increase its participation in these markets?
