AMD has no plans to stop selling the Radeon R9 Fury X

Earlier this week, the Danish company Asetek announced that they demand a stop to sales of the graphics cards Radeon R9 Fury X and Gigabyte Geforce GTX 980 Waterforce – an effect of the legal process against Cooler Master that was decided in September. Asetek claims that both manufacturers’ models restrict existing patents regarding closed water cooling.

We are aware that Asetek has sued Cooler Master. While we defer to Cooler Master regarding the details of the litigation, we understand that the jury in that case did not find that the Cooler Master heat sink currently used with the Radeon Fury X infringed any of Asetek’s patents.

AMD believes, however, that the problem does not affect the R9 Fury X at all. In an official statement, the company claims that the current cooling solution is not covered by the court decision, and thus does not infringe on any of Asetek’s patents. A voluntary stop in the sale of the flagship is thus hardly relevant.

According to Asetek, the water cooling for the Radeon R9 Fury X is based on the Cooler Master Seidon 120M, which in turn is already on sale in the USA. Whether the company chooses to move forward in the process against AMD and Gigabyte remains to be seen.
