With complete specifications and a technical review, not many secrets remain about AMD’s upcoming performance models Radeon R9 290X and 290. In connection with the announcement, pictures were published of the flagship Radeon R9 290X, but now even more details are revealed when Chinese Expreview puts its hands on a copy from HIS .

The HIS Radeon R9 290X follows AMD’s reference design. The radiator is based on a steam chamber design, which transfers heat from the graphics processor to aluminum cooling fins. The voltage regulation and the graphics memory are instead covered by an aluminum frame. The package is cooled by a single radial fan, which the partner manufacturer adorns with its own decal.

At the center is the fresh graphics processor Hawaii, which measures 438 mm2 and contains six billion transistors. For power supply, voltage regulation can be seen in six phases with 6 + 8-pin PCI Express connectors. This allows a maximum power consumption of 300 watts according to the ATX standard.

The graphics card contains 16 memory capsules from SK Hynix of 256 MB each, which provides 4 GB of video memory. The memory circuits are already well-used H5G02H24MFR specified at 6.0 GHz, but AMD is expected to stop at 5.0 GHz for Radeon R9 290X and 290. If the graphics card can be overclocked to the higher frequency, it would mean a bandwidth of 384 GB / s.

So far it is not known when the Radeon R9 290X and 290 will be on the market. However, there is much to suggest a sales start in connection with the launch of Battlefield 4, which will be released on October 29 in North America.
