AMD Radeon RX 470 - A Selection of Famous Models

This summer turned out to be amazingly rich in video card market innovations, showing gamers five representatives of a new generation of NVIDIA and AMD GPU architectures: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, GTX 1070 and GTX 1060 (Pascal); AMD Radeon RX 480, RX 470, and soon we are waiting for the budget RX 460 (Polaris).

In their capabilities and characteristics, the new video cards significantly surpass the representatives of previous generations, so the demand for new products was not long in coming. This also affected pricing – it is still very rare to see a video card for sale at a recommended cost.

In the strategy for the release of a new generation of video cards, each company pursues its own goals, which intensifies competition and forces us to make concessions or take retaliatory steps.

Trying not to lose leadership, at the same time, NVIDIA does not want to stop partners from selling the remains of valuable, but obsolete products in the middle segment of the video card market, so the first Pascal video cards were designed for wealthy customers.
This made it possible for AMD to attack the most popular price categories with its new products: $ 100- $ 200 and $ 200- $ 300, forcing NVIDIA to lower the cost of the GTX 900 series graphics cards and to hastily release the GTX 1060 in order to somehow influence the development of events.

In early August, the release of the video card Radeon RX 470, which strengthened AMD’s position in the eyes of people who are psychologically difficult to decide to buy a video card at a price higher than or about $ 200.
For the announced $ 180 we are offered to get a modern graphics card with low power consumption (TDP 120 W), and play high-end games in modern games with a resolution of 1080p.
The novelty is a slightly stripped-down version of the Radeon RX 480, the 4 GB version of which is not much more expensive than the RX 470 ($ 20), so its release can also be considered a good marketing move to stimulate demand for the RX 480 4GB ($ 200).

Be that as it may, the first RX 470s, at close to the recommended cost, will hit the market by the end of August / fall, but for now let’s see which models from AMD partners can be expected by then.
CPU / Boost / Memory Reference Frequencies: 926 MHz / 1206 MHz / 6000 MHz.

At the moment, only one model is known – ASUS ROG Strix RX 470, which is equipped with a six-phase (5 + 1) power subsystem and a low noise dual-fan DirectCU II cooling system.
