Review and testing of the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT video card (Still Relevant in 2021): Overclocking| Benchmark| Specification | CPU performance| Config and Set-up| Profitability ( Ethereum ETH and Zcash) and other information relating to the scope of this awesome video card.
The AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT is the second graphics card to use a GPU based on the new Navi architecture, which uses a 7nm process technology. As in the case of the appearance of the first video cards on the Polaris architecture, and then Vega, the new AMD accelerators will appear on the market in the form of reference solutions, but unlike the Radeon VII video card, which will forever remain tied to the reference design, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT are designed for mass market., so in the near future we will be waiting for a custom design version of the Radeon RX 5700 XT from AMD partners.
AMD is positioning the RX 5700 XT graphics card as a competitor for the Nvidia RTX 2070 graphics card with similar specifications and performance for Full HD and Quad HD games, but there is one thing but the new product from AMD unfortunately does not support ray tracing technology, as a green competitor, so AMD to To compensate for this shortcoming, AMD has added several additional features to the RX 5000 series, such as Radeon Image Sharpening and Radeon Anti-Lag. The first is designed to restore the clarity of images in the game, and the second reduces the time between input from the player and the display of the response by up to 30%.
At first glance, the Radeon RX 5700 XT video card is identical to the younger version of the Radeon RX 5700, but the differences lie in the details, including the dimensions of the case. The Radeon RX 5700 XT video card is slightly longer, although the PCB is identical – 267 mm. Compared to the Radeon RX 5700, the power subsystem of the Radeon RX 5700 XT is almost unchanged. Except that instead of six phases, seven are now working. Like the “younger” model, the Radeon RX 5700 XT video card is powered via 8- and 6-pin connectors. On the slot cover of the Radeon RX 5700 XT video card, we see the same interfaces as in the younger model. AMD has installed three DisplayPort 1.2 and one HDMI 2.0 ports.
The AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT has 40 Compute Units in its arsenal, containing a total of 2560 stream processors, 160 texture units (TMU) and 64 rasterization units (ROP). The graphics core operates at a frequency from 1605 to 1905 MHz, which achieves a computing power of 9.75 teraflops. On the Radeon RX 5700 XT, Samsung memory is installed, it works at 1750 MHz or at a speed of 14 Gb / s, the GDDR6 memory standard is the same as in the AMD Radeon RX 5700. The memory capacity is 8 GB.
Regardless of what the Radeon RX 5700 XT’s aluminum shroud looks like, it hides the same cooling system inside. The main role in the task of removing heat from the Navi chip is played by a radiator with a copper evaporation chamber, and a thin graphite gasket is again used as a thermal interface.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 RX and 5700 XT: Game tests
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Is a multi-platform computer role-playing game developed by the Polish studio CD Projekt RED based on the series of novels The Witcher by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, a sequel to the computer games The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The final part of the trilogy. According to the developers, the third part of the series will combine a non-linear storyline and a multi-regional open game world, which will be thirty times larger than the world of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
For movement, you can use various vehicles, such as a horse or a ship. The passage of the main storyline will take about 50 hours of the game. Side quests will take about the same amount. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was developed on the RedEngine 3 game engine, which is focused on next generation platforms and will ultimately break the boundaries between game graphics and CGI videos.
The fundamental difference between RedEngine 3 compared to its predecessor is that REDengine 3 is built to support open world games. RED Engine 3 focuses not only on graphics and physics, but also on building a non-linear quest system, allowing you to make the gameplay even more close to real life. RED Engine supports dynamic shadows, normal mapping and parallax.

Darksiders III is the sequel to the Darksiders action game series, in which for the first time you will play as a female character. War and Death were replaced by Rage, which owns magic and a whip. With the help of magic, she can take various forms, each of which gives her access to new weapons, attacks and abilities. Rage must fight the physical incarnations of the seven deadly sins in order to restore the balance between good and evil on Earth. Darksiders III is based on the Unreal Engine 4, developed and maintained by Epic Games. The world of the game turned out to be, perhaps, the most compact in the series – even less than in the first part. It is beautiful and varied (and seamless!), But very “corridor” at the same time.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Shadow of the Tomb Raider takes place after the events depicted in RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER. This time Miss Croft travels to Latin America, where she travels through the ruins of an ancient civilization (including the Mayan and Aztec pyramids), discovers the secrets of the Order of the Trinity, and learns more about her father’s research. The story is more mature than in previous games. To portray Lara as a more advanced adventurer, the developers set out to make her face the consequences of the decisions she made. Rise of the Shadow of the Tomb Raider uses a new game engine called the Foundation Engine. Shadow of the Tomb Raider includes improved subsurface scattering on Lara, volumetric lighting, and beams of light shining through foliage. Also, the new game uses advanced anti-aliasing – TAA, instead of SMAA. In addition, the effects of water have improved and the waves from movement now have a three-dimensional shape, and in general the interaction with water is better. Tessellation is present in both games, but it is used for different purposes.

Battlefield v is a first-person shooter in which the gamer will visit different parts of the world during the Second World War. The gameplay is extremely varied and interesting, and therefore this game is loved by millions of people. The game is based on the Frostbite Engine 3.5. Frostbite Engine is a game engine developed by EA Digital Illusions CE; it is used both in its own developments and in projects of other branches of Electronic Arts. When it comes to visuals, Battlefield V sets new standards for shooter picture quality, powered by the improved Frostbite engine. It is hardly possible to find another such beautiful military shooter, no matter how trite it may sound. The single-player campaign also stands out nicely, because for multiplayer, EA and DICE have chosen a trade-off between performance and appearance. This is not to say that the picture is much worse, but still the developers focused on performance. The only negative point concerns the level of detail depending on the viewing distance. Regardless of the selected graphics quality level, objects are always drawn at a certain distance – although they could appear much earlier / further.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The game takes place in 431 BC. BC, four hundred years before the events of Assassin’s Creed Origins. In the center of the plot is the Peloponnesian war, which took place between the ancient Greek city-states. The player will take on the role of a mercenary Alexios or Kassandra and fight on the side of Athens, leading the Delian Union, or Sparta, leading the Peloponnesian Union. Assassin’s Creed Origins was developed with Anvi Next engine 2.0, a game engine created by Ubisoft Montreal, a subsidiary of publisher Ubisoft. Overall, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey looks as good as the previous installment. The world of the game seems large and detailed due to the high drawing range and uniform style in the graphics. In general, the developers deserve praise for the detail of drawing objects, vegetation and the quality of textures – oh, and they had to work hard, considering what large locations there are. Lighting, shadows and character models look great. Graphics settings in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are similar to those of Assassin’s Creed Origins and has a very wide range of graphics settings. The game has 15 different graphics settings, but there are also five prepared presets for those who do not want to delve into the parameters for a long time.

Metro: EXODUS Is a first-person shooter created by the 4A Engine studio based on the novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky, most likely the last part and the likely ending of the Metro 2033 franchise series. The plot takes place on the territory of the post-apocalyptic Russian Federation, where survivors of a nuclear war managed to hide in the big Moscow metro and are trying to survive under the onslaught attacks of evil mutant predators, as well as warring factions.
4A Engine is a game engine developed by the Ukrainian company 4A Games for use in their computer game Metro 2033, published by THQ on March 16, 2010. The game does not contain preset image detail modes, although they are in the utility that runs the built-in benchmark – from low to ultra-high. Among the individual settings, only the overall “quality” of the image can be adjusted, the sample size of pixels for anisotropic filtering, the intensity of motion blur, and the depth of tessellation of geometric primitives.
As the main method of full-screen anti-aliasing, the game uses its own kind of temporal algorithm (TAA – Temporal Anti-Aliasing) – it cannot be disabled, but judging by the information from NVIDIA, TAA works very smoothly here and probably has little effect on overall performance. As with most games of the caliber of Metro Exodus, the engine allows you to scale the image quality over a wide range, with the difference between low, medium and ultra-high detail profiles being extremely pronounced.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 RX and 5700 XT water cards in mining: hashrate, overclocking, profitability
On July 7, 2019 the AMD company introduced to the market a new line of video cards of the generation Navi RX5700 series. There are three types of video cards in this lineup:
- RX5700;
- RX5700XT;
- RX5700XT 50th Anniversary Edition.
They use chips based on the latest 7nm FinFET semiconductor technology and should theoretically offer the best energy efficiency in mining due to the reduced size of electronic components and lower current consumption.
The number 50, which is used in the marking of AMD RX5700 graphics cards, marks the 50th anniversary of AMD, which it celebrates in 2019. For the first time in this series, AMD graphics cards use memory controllers with support for GDDR6 technology.
In this review, we will look at the mid-range graphics adapters AMD RX 5700 XT and AMD RX 5700. GPU mining is now going through a period of stagnation and the emergence of gpu devices with innovative architecture has been eagerly awaited by both experienced miners and green beginners.
Before you decide to assemble a farm from video cards, we immediately note that now it is more profitable to invest in cloud mining services, where you rent the power of the same ASIKs, but they are located in a remote data center and are serviced by specialists of this service, thereby freeing you from solving a bunch of tasks accompanying the mining process, read more about cloud mining here.
Material navigation:
Packaging and appearance of AMD Radeon RX 5700
The packaging design and appearance of Navi graphics adapters have not undergone significant changes. Several turbine-cooled video cards are offered, which are not recommended for installing in a GPU-rig due to the increased noise level, as well as models with two and three fans.
Some manufacturers such as Sapphire and PowerColor use decorative elements in the external design of the product. Almost all graphics adapters of this series have a metal backplate covering the back. On the side there are HDMI and DisplayPort inputs for connecting monitors, and in the upper right corner there is an 8 pin + 6 pin additional power connector. Many video adapters have a red backlight for the Radeon logo.
It seems that the modern trend “if the card doesn’t shine, then it’s not playable” began to prevail in AMD reference devices as well. However, it is unlikely that anyone will sleep in the same room with a working mining farm and, therefore, illumination will not create problems for anyone at night. Moreover, it is not too bright. The RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT graphics cards are equipped with a cooling system with an aluminum heatsink, copper pipes and fans with dispersion blades. The shroud has openings on the sides to improve airflow efficiency.

The key feature of Navi video accelerators is RDNA technology, which includes not only microarchitecture, but also successful technological developments of previous generations. The Reds did not complicate their lives and decided to improve the current Zen processors, rightly believing that the proven technology will be able to unleash its full potential on the new architecture.
In principle, the card is well charged right out of the box and, most likely, manual overclocking will not greatly affect the hash rate. But, let’s see the test results.
Testing: hashrate on different algorithms
In 2020, it is already useless to test many cryptoalgorithms on the new GPU of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. Some are occupied by ASIKs, others, such as RandomX (Monero), are more profitable on the CPU, and others are sharpened for NVidia. In addition, the driver developers are late with the release of updates, which also significantly affects the performance of the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT in mining virtual currencies.

The efficiency of mining on Navi video cards from different manufacturers may differ by 5-7%. Much depends on the version of the driver and the mining software. The profitability of the RX 5700 will help to calculate the WhatToMine mining calculator.
Overclocking AMD Radeon RX 5700
Navi GPUs work with Ethash mining software Claymore’s Miner v15.0, PhoenixMiner 4.9, as well as WildRigMulti 0.19.0, xmr-stak and lolMiner 0.9.7 utilities. You must install the latest AMD video driver (at least 19.9.1). For overclocking, it is recommended to use the OverdriveNTool program.
- Download the program from the developer page https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/overdriventool-tool-for-amd-gpus.416116/
- Unpack it to a convenient place on the disk.
- Open the settings.
- Write down the parameters of the core and memory frequencies.
- Perform undervolting.
- Set the cooler rotation mode to the maximum allowable temperature and power limit
- Save the profile and click Apply.
Now you need to create a bat-file in which the r command resets the settings for all video cards, and then the r command applies the profile you saved to them. The executable file must be saved to the OverdriveNTool.exe folder and a shortcut must be created on it, which is placed in Windows startup.
Sample batch file for 5 video cards:
- @echo Overdrive downvolt setting up
- @echo off
- timeout 90
- OverdriveNTool.exe -r0 -r1 -r2 -r3 -r4 -r5
- timeout 15
- OverdriveNTool.exe -p0″1″ -p1″1″ -p2″1″ -p3″1″ -p4″1″ -p5″1″
You can of course install MSI Afterburner overclocking and downvolting software. But OverdriveNTool will provide a better and more reliable result. However, everyone can compare these two utilities and make their own choice.
Recommended parameters for ether mining are shown in the picture. You can carefully experiment with overclocking, you may achieve better performance.
How to reduce the power consumption of video cards?
We adjust the consumption of the rx 5700 in mining using the same OverdriveNTool. Testing has shown that the card can run stably at a core voltage of 860mV at 1700, drawing 115W from an outlet on a Corsair 80+ Gold block. At the same time, it demonstrates the speed of 52Mh / s, for comparison, the RX 580 card accelerates to 30Mh / s with 89W consumption.
Bios 5700 can be replaced with firmware from the older RX 5700 XT model, this will slightly improve its performance. Modified rx 5700 firmware for mining has not yet been created. At least, no such information could be found on the forums.
Profitability and relevance of the purchase
The popular online service WhatToMine has a GPUs tab, which displays a rating of the most profitable video cards. It is necessary to indicate the cost of electricity in the Power cost column (for example, $ 0.06) and press Enter. The current income of the RX 5700 XT is $ 0.85 per day. We look at the price in stores – the price ranges model costs $ 380.
In this situation, the card will pay off in 15 months. Not a bad result, and if you consider that video accelerators with 4GB memory will no longer be able to mine ETH and ETC in the fall of 2020, Navi’s profitability may increase. For comparison, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 video card earns $ 1.10 without deducting electricity. Draw your own conclusions. Happy mining!
