It has been almost a year since AMD launched the Radeon RX 6800, RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT, but despite this, the company is not finished with the rollout of the entire RX 6000 series. The reason for this is the lack of circuitry, which was significantly exacerbated by the corona pandemic. Now the situation has started to ease and with this it is time to release something new in the lower middle class.

The graphics card in question is the Radeon RX 6600, the full specifications of which are published by Videocardz. The core of the product is the graphics circuit Navi 23, where 4 of 32 computing units are disabled. It provides a total of 1,792 stream processors, 112 texture units and 28 ray accelerators. This includes a specified turbo clock frequency of 2,491 MHz, which gives a computing power of 8,928 GFLOPS – 18.8 percent lower than the big brother RX 6600 XT.
A perhaps unexpected change is the graphics card’s 8 GB GDDR6 memory, which stops at the effective clock frequency of 14,000 MHz. This is the first time a graphics card in the Radeon RX 6000 series has dropped below 16,000 MHz. In addition, it is connected over a narrow 128-bit memory bus, which results in the theoretical bandwidth 224 GB / s. This is something AMD hopes to compensate for through a fast 32 MB “Infinity Cache”.
In terms of position, the Radeon RX 6600 is aimed at Nvidia’s lowest priced model Geforce RTX 3060, something the graphics card according to AMD’s own tests is powerful. Worth noting is that AMD made similar promises that the RX 6600 XT could meet the RTX 3060 Ti in terms of performance, but ended up a good bit behind in SweClocker’s tests.
In addition to revealing the specifications, Videocardz also publishes images of models from XFX, Powercolor and Asrock. As the graphics card’s specified power consumption is relatively low 132 W, no porky donuts are required and it can also be seen in several of the pictures, where two fans are accompanied by seemingly thin heat sinks with a few heat conduction tubes.
According to previous statements, the launch will take place on 13 October. What the graphics card will get for the recommended price is not yet known, but since the Geforce RTX 3060 is at 329 USD, a price tag around 299 USD is not entirely unlikely.
