AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT with 12 GB graphics memory on input

During the autumn of 2020, many technology enthusiasts were able to fill their wish lists with new hardware from many large technology companies, where fresh graphics cards from AMD and Nvidia may have ended up at the top. With the results in hand, however, it became a rare phenomenon to tick off graphics cards from the said list, due to a still prevailing shortage. The underlying causes are spelled high demand, component shortages and miners.

On the graphics card front, however, manufacturers are not waiting for the released models to come into stock. The CES 2021 trade fair means that Nvidia kicked off the year by unveiling the Ampere family for laptops and the Geforce RTX 3060 for desktops. The latter steps up to 12 GB of graphics memory, which is thus the second highest in the recent graphics card family. The card will make its debut at the end of February and now there is talk that AMD will also be ready with a new model in the near future.

It is the Hardwareluxx editor Andreas Schilling who takes to Twitter to share an AMD-signed logo with the text “Radeon RX 6700 XT”, which is thus the next logical addition in the RDNA 2 family. This currently consists of the RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT and RX 6800, all of which use the Navi 21 circuit and 16 GB of graphics memory. Schilling adds that gaming in 1440p and 12 GB of GDDR6 memory is at the center of the upcoming RX 6700 XT.

The editor believes that the card will be launched “soon”, but whether it is the first quarter of the year or half a year can only be speculated. Reports from the beginning of the year also speak of an XT-loose sibling, but the future will show if this is a model that makes its debut in the same crank.

Exactly which graphics card from Nvidia’s more extensive line-up AMD is aiming for with the newcomer, is another unknown point in the current situation. 1440p gaming features in Nvidia’s marketing materials for the Geforce RTX 3070 and the simpler RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3060, but the former is the more likely target with AMD’s existing cards in mind.

The rollouts continue, even though the store shelves are empty.

RTX 3070 has a recommended price from 499 USD or 5,625 kronor, and under the hood you can see 8 GB of graphics memory. Reasonably, the upcoming AMD card will get at least a recommended price tag below the $ 579 that in theory applies to the Radeon RX 6800 – a level that has not been shown in practice. It remains to be seen when AMD will follow up with official information on price, approximate performance and availability.
