AMD Radeon RX Vega with 8 GB HBM2 and 4,096 stream processors find out on the web

In connection with AMD’s now annual graphics event Capsaicin, the company announced that the name of the next flagship with the architecture Vega will be named Radeon RX Vega. Vega now finds out in the databases for Sisoft Sandra and Compubench on the web, where previous information on specifications is strengthened.

The first numbers come from the database for Sisoft Sandra, which includes a graphics card Device IDloop 687F: C3 tested. This is similar to that Device ID as Vega had during an AMD demonstration in December, where, however, the last number was a one (687F: C1) instead of a third.

In terms of specifications, another 8 GB of HBM2 graphics memory and a 2,048-bit memory bus are listed. Assuming that the memory clock frequency is 1,000 MHz (2,000 MHz efficient), this gives a theoretical bandwidth of 512 GB / s, the same as the Radeon R9 Fury X and slightly higher than the recent Geforce GTX 1080 Ti (484 GB / s).

The number of computing units also remains at the same level as the Radeon R9 Fury X-64, which gives 4,096 stream processors. The next flagship Radeon RX Vega will nevertheless perform better, as the architecture Vega will perform better at a given clock frequency than the Radeon HD 7000 series up to the Radeon RX series based on Graphics Core Next (GCN).

Another detail that emerges is the clock frequency 1,200 MHz, which, however, is expected to be higher for the sharp launch. This is based on the fact that the Radeon Instinct MI25 for machine learning, which is also based on Vega, has a theoretical computing power of 25 TFLOPS (FP16), which requires a clock frequency of 1,526 MHz. It is therefore assumed that the consumer variant Radeon RX Vega will settle at at least that level.

The launch of the Radeon RX Vega takes place during the second quarter of the year, where previous indications speak for the month of May.
