AMD recommends limited Nvidia Hairworks in The Witcher 3

Anyone who plays The Witcher 3 and appreciates well-groomed beards and mesmerizing curls does best in using a graphics card from the green team, preferably a lavish model from the latest Geforce GTX 900 series. Even if the performance is negatively affected, realistic simulation of hair via Nvidia Hairworks also works with the competitor’s graphics card in the Radeon family.

We will release AMD Catalyst 15.5 Beta on our website as soon as it is available. In the meantime, users experiencing performance issues with the “HairWorks” feature in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are encouraged to enable the below settings in AMD Catalyst.

Despite the loss of performance, AMD unexpectedly does not urge Radeon users to turn off Nvidia’s technology. Instead, the recommendation is that the amount of tessellation be limited to “8x” in the drivers control panel. It may provide slightly lower image quality, however, while maintaining hair simulation.

Unlike Geforce, there are no new drivers yet with specific optimizations for The Witcher 3 for the Radeon Series graphics cards. However, it will be added in the new Catalyst 15.5 Beta, which will appear “as soon as possible”.
