AMD Ryzen 3 1200

The AMD Ryzen 3 1200 processor has the following mode of operation: when idle, the processor frequency drops to 1550 MHz, the voltage is in the range of 0.65-0.7 V. When performing single-threaded operations, the processor accelerates to 3450 MHz at a voltage of 0.950-1.0 V; if all cores are used, then the frequency drops to 3100 MHz.

To measure the temperature regime and processor consumption, the LinX 0.7.0 program with integrated libraries for AMD Ryzen processors was used. Testing was carried out in a room with a temperature of 25 ° C, an open stand was used. The Team Group T-Force Dark Rog Red RAM (dual-rank, Samsung S-Die chips) ran at 2133 MHz with timings of 15-15-15-36 CR2.

In 20 minutes of testing, the maximum temperature of the processor reached only 37 ° C, while the average consumption did not reach 30 watts. At the same time, the processor performed calculations with a performance of 89-90 Gflops. Excellent result! Not the last role here was played by a low operating voltage of only 1.0 V.

In Geekbench 3, the performance in single-threaded operations reached 3569 points, in multi-threaded operations – 11086 points.

Overclocking of the processor and RAM was performed in the BIOS of the motherboard. Overclocking is also possible using the proprietary AMD Ryzen Master utility . We already know the overclocking potential of processors based on the Zeppelin chip, so we didn’t have to expect anything new.

At a voltage of 1.375 V (the absence of LLC on the motherboard led to voltage drops at a load of up to 1.356 V), the processor was overclocked to 4100 MHz, the 1.38 V RAM was overclocked to 3066 MHz at timings of 16-16-16-38 CR1.

In LinX 0.7.0, the processor test was successfully passed.

The processor temperature reached 64 o C, and the consumption increased to 80 watts! Yes, the processing performance of the processor has increased by 32% (peak power reached 119 GFlops), but at the cost of a significant increase in temperature and consumption.

In Geekbench 3, performance in single-threaded operations increased to 4592 points (+28.7%), in multi-threaded operations – 14847 points (+33.9%).

Further, the RAM was replaced with a KFA2 HOF Hall Of Fame peer-to-peer memory based on Samsung’s B-Die chips. It was possible to overclock it to 3466 MHz with timings of 14-15-13-26 CR1.

As you can see, increasing the memory frequency and lowering the timings had a positive effect on memory bandwidth and latency. In Geekbench 3, the following results were obtained:

In Geekbench 3, performance in single-threaded operations increased to 4756 points (+3.5%), in multi-threaded operations – 15137 points (+2%). As you can see, this benchmark mainly reacts to the processor frequency. Memory rank and frequency are secondary factors.

Benchmarks benchmarks, but what about games? Going a little ahead, I would like to bring the performance increase in the game Deus Ex: Mankind Divided at 720p resolution and at low quality settings when overclocking the AMD Ryzen 3 1200 processor to 4100 MHz and memory from 2133 MHz to 3466 MHz with changing timings.

Complex overclocking led to an increase in the average number of frames per second by 52.4%, and the minimum – by 55.8%! In this case, even the secondary and tertiary timings were affected, which made it possible to achieve the maximum level of performance from the processor.

AMD Ryzen 3 1300X

The AMD Ryzen 3 1300X processor had different operating modes from the Ryzen 3 1200 : at the same 1550 MHz in idle, the processor reached 3900 MHz at 1.43 V in single-threaded operations and 3600 MHz at 1.25 V in multi-threaded operations.

As a result, the stock 1300X is slightly more powerful than the stock Ryzen 3 1200 , making it more attractive to use in A320 chipset motherboards.

In Geekbench 3, we have 3872 points for single-threaded operations (against 3569 for Ryzen 3 1200 ) and 12162 points (against 11086) for multi-threaded operations.

But the increase in frequencies and operating voltages has led to an increase in consumption and temperature. Testing the processor in LinX 0.7.0 is an indicator of this:

The processor reached a temperature of 51 ° C, and the consumption exceeded 57 watts.

But with the overclocking of the Ryzen 3 1300X , everything was not entirely smooth. It was possible to achieve stable 4000 MHz only at a voltage of 1.43 V, an increase of even 25 MHz led to an unstable system startup, it was not possible to pass any benchmarks.

And here we are faced with the same effect as in the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 review – the younger processor bypasses its older brothers in terms of overclocking potential.

Synthetic tests

In synthetic tests, the AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300X processors took their rightful place – in single-threaded applications, the processors were at the level and higher than older “relatives”, in multi-threaded applications, the performance differed from the quad-core AMD Ryzen 5 by the amount of frequency difference and SMT efficiency.

It makes no sense to use AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300X for workstations, for designing, photo and video editing, everything depends on insufficient multi-threaded performance. However, this does not prevent the use of processors for everyday tasks, where AMD Ryzen 3 will show acceptable performance for a four-thread.

Gaming Performance

In gaming, the AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300X processors were tested with the MSI GeForce GTX 1070 AERO ITX 8G OC graphics card. Testing was carried out at 1280×720 at low quality settings and at 1920×1080 at high quality settings.

At many points, AMD Ryzen 3 processors show similar performance to AMD Ryzen 5 1400 , and sometimes even outperform the older version. The reason for this phenomenon lies in the fact that many modern games do not always work well with virtual streams, and SMT technology, as a beginner, is generally biased.

On the other hand, with intensive use of 4 or more threads, the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 starts to take the lead, and as a processor “with a margin” it looks more interesting.

At a resolution of 1920×1080 in most games, everything depends on the capabilities of the video card.


With the release of Ryzen 3 processors , AMD began to cover the processor market from $100 to $500. The processors in question turned out to be quite energy efficient, cold, showing quite decent performance. It would seem, why not a budget must-have? But you can’t do without a fly in the ointment.
