Ryzen 7 3800X Review – With Gaming Benchmarks!
Intel has two 8-core variations addressed to gamers: Core i7-9700K (in the same category we write models with the letter “F”, “KF” and no index at all) and Core i9-9900K. The younger CPU has 8 computational threads, the older one has 16.
AMD offers the Ryzen 7 3800X, which is what this article is about, the Ryzen 7 3700X with a more modest clock speed, and variants of the previous generation (i.e. Ryzen 2000 series).
We have in our hands sweet couple: Ryzen 7 3800X and Core i7-9700K (Core i9-9900K has been tested before). So a direct comparison cannot be avoided. Which CPU is better for professional tasks and which is better for gaming? This is what we have to find out.
AMD Ryzen 7 3800X Processor: Overclocking
There are a few key facts to know about the Ryzen 7 3800X:
- this 7 nm processor has 8 physical cores and 16 computing threads
- it is compatible with Socket AM4

We cooled the Ryzen 7 3800X with the Scythe Fuma 2 dual-fan cooler. In stress tests, the temperature constantly jumped to 74 degrees (on an open bench). What kind of acceleration is there?
We remind you that the maximum operating temperature of the Ryzen 7 3800X is 95 degrees (according to the developers).
There’s one more thing you should know about the Ryzen 7 3800X. This processor supports the next generation interface that will become popular in the future (talking about PCIe 4.0). In addition, under hood you will not find integrated graphics for this CPU, you will definitely need an external accelerator to display the picture.
Ryzen 7 3800X Review, Install & Quick Look at Wraith Prism RGB CPU Cooler

Ryzens 3000 series is not bad are friends with high frequency memory. The declared value for the Ryzen 7 3800X is DDR4-3200. But we were able to make sure that stable operation can also be achieved at higher frequencies (DDR4-3600 and even DDR4-3800). The AMD Ryzen 7 3800X is ruthlessly cracking down on its direct competitors in professional workloads. Not only the Core i7-9700K is unable to resist it (however, this stone in some applications it does not even reach the level of the Ryzen 5 3600X), but even the Core i9-9900K (with an equal number of cores / computing threads).
In the Intel portfolio, there is an ideal six-core “Core i5-9400F, and AMD has the perfect octa-core processor called the Ryzen 7 3800X. The reviewed product costs less than the competitors indicated, plus it is faster. So the choice is obvious, right?
There is one “but” in this story. In games stones from Intel still turn out to be faster (the notorious optimization, single-threaded calculations, etc.). Yes, the difference sometimes reaches ridiculous 1-2 frames / s (although in some projects you can see all ten), but it still exists. And in this area, Intel, whatever one may say, is a leader.
Conclusion
Why is the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X the best 8-core processor? Yes, because it is powerful, balanced and extremely stable stone, which is almost the most affordable solution with 16 computing threads. There are simply no competitors for this amount in the market.
Ryzen 7 3800X turned out to be very hot.
After all, the Ryzen 7 3800X is faster than Intel’s 8-core products. So with it you save more time, it will help you perform more operations and process more information. Indeed, to solve serious problems, such CPUs are bought.
Yes, in games faster than Intel. But pathetic 2-6 fps anyway won’t make the weather (and you won’t notice the difference). AMD Ryzen 7 3800X features are enough to unlock the potential of a powerful graphics accelerator.
Thus, the Ryzen 7 3800X is indeed the best 8-core processor right now, equally well suited for resource-intensive applications and gaming. Recommended.
