AMD’s profit in 2020 is more than three times higher compared to 2019

Since the spring of 2017, when AMD launched the Zen architecture, AMD has slowly climbed upwards, from a company in irrelevance and crisis to increasingly healthy finances. The years 2018 and 2019 showed a company that once again had its feet on solid ground, but when they now report the results for the full year 2020, it is more than that.

When AMD presents its full-year report, it appears that revenues have increased significantly by 45 percent, from around 6.7 to 9.8 billion dollars, and the growth is attributed to all divisions within the company. For the full year, a net profit of almost SEK 2.5 billion * is made, of which around SEK 1.3 billion is for tax technical reasons and which came in during the fourth quarter. Despite this, this is an increase of approximately 350 percent compared to 2019’s 341 million.

Within Computing and Graphics launched the AMD Ryzen 4000 series for laptops, which was embraced by manufacturers to a greater extent than any other AMD processor generation. During the autumn, the Ryzen 5000 was launched with the architecture Zen 3 for desktops and shortly afterwards was joined by the graphics cards Radeon RX 6800, RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT, which after years of desert wandering again put AMD on the performance map.

In connection with the full-year report, the results for the fourth quarter are presented, which obviously account for a large part of AMD’s success for the year. On an annual basis, the company’s revenues increased by just over 52 percent and compared with the previous quarter, the increase is 16 percent. The net profit for the fourth quarter is as much as 1,781 million *, of which a significant part of approximately 1,300 million is the previously mentioned lump sum.

Degraded to the various departments stood Computing and Graphics, which includes processors and graphics cards, increased revenue by just over 17.9 percent to 1,960 million on an annual basis. Operating profit landed at 420 million, up from 360 million in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The category Enterprise, Embedded and Semi-Custom had revenues of 1,284 million during the quarter, a full 276 percent higher on an annual basis. The reason is the launches of Sony’s and Microsoft’s new game consoles. Operating profit here was 243 million and 540 percent higher than 45 million for the fourth quarter of 2014.

When AMD looks ahead, revenues of around SEK 3.2 billion, plus or minus SEK 100 million, are forecast, and an increase of 79 percent compared to the first quarter of 2020. AMD also expects a slightly increased gross margin from 45 to 46 percent, which takes the company one percentage point. closer to its long-term 50% target.
