Some problems on my Android device have been caused by tapping where I shouldn’t. The cause of this error was disabling applications that should not (at least in my case). Fortunately the solution is relatively simple. It is all about erasing the data and forcing the closing or stopping of the Play Store, Google Play Services, and Google Play Services Framework apps one by one.

Additionally, you must delete the Google or Gmail account from the cell phone, restart the device and re-enter it to be able to download applications again.

For example, to erase data and force close the Play Store application, do the following:

• Open the Android system settings.
• Select “Applications” (or “Application Manager”).
• Toca en «Play Store» (o «Google Play Store»).
• Press the “Clear data” button. On the same screen, also touch the button «Force Stop» (or «Force Close»). In both cases, accept the warning that will appear.

You need to do this for the three apps mentioned: Play Store, Google Play Services, and Google Play Services Framework.

Also go to system settings, «Accounts», «Google», select the account and tap on «Delete account». Delete all Gmail accounts.

Finally restart the device and re-enter the account: Settings> Accounts> Add account> Google.

These instructions not only serve to solve the indicated problem, but also other common errors that appear in the Google Play Store, such as those of the type “Error XXX”, which also do not allow downloading applications.

To avoid having problems with your cell phone, you must know well what you are handling. In my case, this “There was an error retrieving information from the server” notice appeared when I turned off the Play Store and Google Play Services applications. I reactivated them but they already showed this error that prevented me from downloading apps and games.
