Recently, we have seen a real revival of the tablet market. Folding smartphones with large internal displays are also gaining popularity. That is why Google decided to create a special version of the system – Android 12L – dedicated to such devices.

With the growing popularity of devices with large screens (tablets, foldable smartphones), Google was again in the heat of criticism for treating them neglectfully. However, it seems that there was quiet work on a special version of the operating system, which, to the surprise of many, is now available for download in the development version.

A system dedicated to devices with a large display, i.e. Android 12L

So it is an operating system adapted to tablets or smartphones with large screens. Google emphasizes its flexibility, because the system is said to be able to adapt to the size of the working space. The interface and applications have been improved, and we will also notice changes on the lock screen, in notifications or settings. There is also a new two-column layout that uses screen properties.

Android 12L will also introduce multitasking improvements, for example, the split screen mode will be added to the taskbar to be able to easily turn it on. Importantly, all applications can be launched this way.

Among other changes, it is worth mentioning:

  • six-button power menu 9 including screenshot),
  • two-column lock layout, redesigned overview interface,
  • two-column settings menu interface,
  • dock with applications in tablet mode.

For now, Google has made Adnroid 12L available to developers, but as this is the first version, there are few functions. The second release is expected to appear in December, and in early 2022 another beta with the final API is to be made available. A stable release is expected to appear in the first quarter of next year.
