Today is a big day! Indeed Antec has finally released a new model of its Performance One boxes, after the excellent P180 (which was a hit when it was released) and P280 (the white version was tested here) here is finally the P380! This new version has a hard time facing its big brothers and especially the competition which has not been outdone since the release of the first P180.

For the P380 Antec decided to change completely and make a cross on the front door and replace all this with a 4mm thick aluminum panel (a bit like the In-Win 905 tested here) giving a classy and luxurious aspect to the beast. Silence is once again targeted by Antec by offering anti-noise double-layer side panels, 3 fans supposed to be silent delivered as standard as well as the eternal hard disk baskets equipped with silentblocs.
Offered at a recommended price of 209 € (ouch) it is more expensive than its predecessors, let’s see if the price increase can be justified in today’s test!

Specification: Hashrate – Antec P380

As we can see the latest from Antec is rather disproportionate at all levels, it accepts a motherboard up to SSI CEB format (30.5 x 26.9 cm), a graphics card 46.5 cm in length and a 18 cm high CPU cooler, which is to say that it will be necessary to really do it on purpose to buy incompatible components!

Antec with its P380 skips the 5.25 ″ bays and it will only be possible to install a “slim” format drive, some will like it and others will hate. Thanks to the elimination of 5.25 ″ bays, it is possible to install 8 3.5 ″ / 2.5 ″ hard drives / SSDs in individual baskets equipped with silentblocs.

Ventilation is not to be outdone with a total of 7 installable fans, 3 x 12 cm or 2 x 14 cm at the front, the same on the top and 1 x 12 cm at the rear, as much to say that there will have a way to ventilate the beast well! Antec supplies original 2 x 14 cm on the top as well as 1 x 12 cm at the rear, all fans being hydrodynamic fluid versions supposed to be quieter than ball bearings but also less enduring.

Of course the dust filters are part of the game with 1 filter below the power supply and 1 large filter on the front, unfortunately note that the front filter can be removed from below so you will have to either lift the box or put it on. horizontally which is really not very practical when the configuration is mounted and therefore very heavy.
The dimensions are substantial without going over the top, 55 cm high, 55 cm deep and 22 cm wide, substantially the same as the P280. The price of 209 € hurts, which puts the P380 a step above its predecessors (sold for around 150-160 € at release).

The box is in the typical spirit of Antec, the front is very sober with the photo of the product on a black background, the name of the brand as well as the name of the model, and that’s it! We are certainly not going to complain, sobriety is not a bad thing.
At the back we find a listing of all the features of the box, number of fans, maximum length of the graphics card, integrated rheobus etc. It is always good to have a summary before buying the box when we go to shop.

We can also see a photo of the interior as well as the profile, at least we have the P380 from all angles!

As usual with Antec we find the case in a plastic bag caught between 2 thick foams, there will be no problem in terms of transport.

At the level of the bundle we have of course all the necessary screws as well as some plastic cable ties, the manual and a plastic adapter which will be there to accommodate a 5.25 reader / writer in slim format and which will be installed behind the plate in aluminum at the front.

And here is the long awaited, the unique, the only one, the one who carries the heavy burden of succeeding the P280, the P380! The first impression looking at the newcomer is its sobriety, the whole is black with only the edge of the aluminum plate covering the front and the top in silver color. A window comes however to change the situation by leaving a bird’s eye view of the interior of the beast, let’s see it all more closely.

Let’s start with the front, as we can see there is not much to say except that it could hardly be more sober, an aluminum plate painted in black with the silver Antec logo at the bottom. Everything is of impeccable quality.

The power-on and reset buttons are placed on the sides of the front panel, behind the aluminum plate. Antec has thought of all those who have configurations located on the left or on the right of the desk by positioning buttons on both sides, so no jealousy here!

A large dust filter is present on the front to prevent this nasty dust from entering.

Unfortunately this filter can only be removed from the bottom, so you will have to lay the tower down each time it needs to be cleaned, a shame not to have thought of a system allowing it to be removed otherwise.

As you can see it is a more than reasonable size, covering the fans as well as the 2 internal 5.25 ″ slots.

On the side where the window is located, once again sobriety is essential, as well as quality. Above you can see the ventilation allowing part of the air evacuation of the upper fans, next to it is the connectors. At the bottom left it will be possible to remove the dust filter from the power supply.

Like the P280, the panel is covered with a hard material allowing on the one hand to damp vibrations and on the other hand to solidify it. There really is no complaints about the quality of the side panels. On the other side the panel is of course identical except for the absence of window.

The connection consists of 2 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports and the eternal 3.5mm jack connectors for headphones and microphone.

The removable filter is of good quality, it is very easy to remove and put back on.

Once the top aluminum plate has been removed, we fall directly on the brand’s 2 14 cm TwoCool fans, it will be possible to install 3 12 cm fans instead or a radiator up to 360 mm. Note that the plastic connector plate is removable and can be placed to the left or to the right of the tower depending on the location of the tower in relation to the desk.

Underneath there is not much to say, apart from the honeycomb grille and the 4 very good quality rubber feet which will certainly not transmit vibrations.

At the rear once again sobriety is required, there is a honeycomb grid behind the 12cm fan, 9 perforated brackets as well as 2 holes allowing the passage of the water-cooling pipes. Thumbscrews are included here, 2 for the side panels and 2 for the aluminum top plate.

Here is the interior of the beast! All black of course, the chassis has been updated compared to the P280 with increased modularity with the 3 removable hard drive cages as well as the 5.25 ″ part, for the rest (motherboard, cable gland, space between card mother and fans) it is the same. There is also plenty of room for the components (compatible with E-ATX motherboard), the grommets are still just as good, let’s see it all a little closer.

In all, 8 baskets spread over 3 cages are available for hard drives, the baskets are made of very good quality plastic.

To remove a cage, nothing could be simpler, just remove 2 screws and the plate on the left side to free up a significant amount of space.

As I said, plastic basket but with the famous rubber pads so effective from these Messieurs Antec who work miracles. To see of course during the tests if the vibrations of the hard disks are well damped 🙂

9 brackets are available, of course all perforated and fixed using hand screws. The quality is again very good.

The grommets are really very good, the rubber is very flexible and will not interfere in any way during assembly.

Above the motherboard there is a lot of room to run the cables and install a water-cooling radiator, and that’s really a very good thing!

As I said the fans supplied are Antec TwoCool 14cm with FDB bearing. The cables are not braided but flat and black with a mini rheobus 2 speeds “Low” and “High”.

In terms of internal connections (and in addition to the eternal power, reset, LED buttons etc.) there is a USB 3.0 connector (and compatible with USB 2.0), a USB 2.0 connector as well as of course the Audio connector to be plugged into the motherboard.

At the back of the motherboard we are in the presence of a great classic, apart from this strange little thing in the middle, next to the opening behind the processor, but what is it?

A small hub for fans! It will be possible to connect up to 6 fans, it is powered by a molex plug. Too bad not to have a real rheobus but it’s already taken.

One thing is for sure, there will be enough room to put all the cables behind the motherboard, even if you are not really a storage ace.

The configuration used during the tests is as follows:

A rather bulky configuration therefore due to its huge cooler and the 3 slots taken by the graphics card. The Antec P380 will be tested once with the fans in “Low” and once in “High” with the SSD and the Raptor drive connected, since the P380 absorbs vibrations without flinching and there is no notable difference with and without the Raptor it will remain in the configuration during all the tests.

Given the space available inside, the space at the back and above the motherboard and the quality of the materials the assembly was obviously not a problem, everything went perfectly well!
Here is just a small photo of the hard drive and SSD, to see which way they should be installed.

The rest speaks for itself, everything fits neatly everywhere and screws up without difficulty.

And pouf! The configuration is installed! Note that given the space available it would almost seem that the Noctua NH-D15 is small, which is frankly not the case.

In order to test the box, I will carry out an OCCT Power Supply test for 30mins and then take the temperatures of the main components such as the processor (average of the 4 cores), the motherboard, the graphics card as well as the hard drive.
Regarding noise pollution, I will proceed as in the file on silent PCs namely 1 statement in front, right, left, rear and above.

The Antec P380 will face the case used for the silent pc backrest, the Corsair Carbide 300R modified for the needs of the same backrest as well as the Cooler Master Silencio 652S, Antec P100, be quiet! Silent base 800 as well as the Fractal Design Core 3300. The choice of boxes is not random, all these boxes are rather silent so the Antec P380 will have a lot to do!

Repos

The new born from Antec starts strong with quite simply the best temperatures of the comparison with 28-29 °, 28 ° for the graphics card and 30-32 ° for the motherboard, let’s not forget our little raptor which is very well cooled with 34 ° in “Low” and 36 ° in “High”. The temperatures are however not really miraculous, they are very easily explained when we know (if you have read the beginning of the test of course!) That 3 fans are in the direct vicinity of the Noctua NH-D15, the graphics card as for it does not usually heat up much at rest.
What about noise pollution?

Ambient sound level: 31dB

It must still be admitted, the fans delivered to Antec have never really been models of silence at maximum speed, this is once again felt here with fans which really circulate a lot of air in “High” and which therefore logically make a lot of noise, especially at the rear because this is where the air flow from the 3 fans is evacuated. On the other hand, it should be noted that even if the air flow is very present there are no parasitic noises or vibrations, the only thing you can hear from the P380 is the noise of the air flow. air and it’s something that is much less intrusive than a hard drive that vibrates the carcass for example.

In “Low” things improve greatly for the P380, even if the fans still blow a lot the noise pollution is very contained, with a maximum of 39 dB always at the rear because of the air flow of the 3. fans. There is however this little clicking noise which comes from the engine unfortunately often present on the fans when they are not running at full speed which, even if very slight, can be heard near the beast.

Circulate there is nothing to see, the fans spin at their minimum speed in PWM, whether for the graphics card or for the processor.

Charge

Well the Antec P380 continues its momentum here leaving everyone behind, the most impressive results however are found in “Low” which are very close to “High” mode, the test configuration should certainly not generate enough. of heat to really test the wind tunnel in “High”. In “Low” so we arrive at 60 ° for the processor and the graphics card while the motherboard and the small raptor stagnate at a small 36 °, it is simply excellent!

Ambient sound level: 31dB

In charge, the box from Antec really picks up the hair of the beast, because of its large internal size the components are very easy to breathe and therefore the sound level simply does not move a bit compared to rest, not a single dB! In “Low” the P380 is quite simply as quiet as any of the boxes in the comparison (and with a Western Digital Raptor hard drive in the belly), proof that the ventilation is very efficient. In “High”, of course, the blower is always on, once again only the noise of the breath is present, no parasitic noise.

The stagnation of the sound level emanating from the Antec P380 is not miraculous either, in fact the PWM fans of the processor and the graphics card increase only marginally, with 705 RPM for the processor and 600 RPM for the graphics card. , with the noise of the fans of the box it is not surprising that the sound level does not move.

Here we are at the end of this test, what about the Antec P380?
Antec had a lot to do with a case supposed to represent the flagship of the brand, and well we can say that the bet is successful. There is certainly no real revolution in the chassis compared to an already very good P280 but now modularity is required with the 3 removable hard drive cages and 5.25 ″. The design is certainly one of the strengths of the P380 with its 4mm thick aluminum plate which looks really good and looks very classy, ​​you must however be looking for a facade that is as clean as possible.

In terms of performance, it is once again very good with a vacuum ventilation system thanks to the 3 extraction fans (as on the P280), if this were not enough, it will be possible to add 2 (of 14cm, or 3 of 12cm) at the front.
Regarding noise pollution, on the other hand, the box can be silent in “Low” (but not inaudible) although letting appear some clicks coming from the fans. In “High” on the other hand, the blower starts up and blows very hard which increases the sound level a lot, but unlike other units only the air flow will be heard, no parasitic noises such as the motors. fans or vibrations. Speaking of vibrations, the Antec P380 is one of the few boxes to swallow the vibrations of the Western Digital Raptor without flinching in the least, which is a performance in itself.

Offered at a recommended price of € 209, but already cheaper, the price still hurts for an evolution of the P280. However with the P380 you will have the assurance of having a very well finished case, with very good quality materials, very good performance, plenty of room for a large configuration and a classy and sober design. In the end, if you have the means and the P380 gives you an eye for your big gamer config, you will certainly not be disappointed!
