Apple's 2020 promises to be crackling, especially from the iPhone front. According to the latest rumors, in fact, the Bitten Apple could launch five smartphone models on the market, including the highly anticipated iPhone SE 2 which is expected to debut over the next few months.
There are also news from the iPad Pro front, which is also on the launching pad in the first half of the year, while Apple Watch and AirPods do not portend major revolutions but only the consolidation of what has been done in recent years.
iPhone 12
Also this year, the cornerstone of the entire Apple lineup will be iPhone. After last year's iPhone 11, which led to the debut of the third photographic lens on the Pro range models and some battery improvements, Apple could really change everything and bring fresh models to stores not only in terms of technical specifications, but also in terms of design.
Many continue to argue that 2020 will mark the farewell to Face ID: the facial recognition system could really be abandoned, in favor of a Integrated Touch ID directly under the screen, resulting in the elimination of the much hated and discussed notch, but at the moment we are still in the field of hypotheses.
The thing that seems certain, on which the main market analysts are aligned, is that iPhones 2020 will bring many news.
Let's start with the design: we expect a new glass body not unibody but divided by stainless steel frames like those of the iPhone 4. The choice of the rear glass is obvious and will guarantee support for the wireless charging system.
The expansion of OLED screens on the whole lineup is also planned, as widely expected a few years ago.
The corridor rumors speak of iPhone 6.7, 6.1 and 5.4 inches. The first two will represent the high-end models, while the smaller one should differ not only in size, but also for the dual lens rear camera, compared to the three of the others. 2020 will also mark the 5G debut on iPhones: Apple has in fact preferred to stall in 2019 (as it did with 4G long ago) for reasons related to production but also to the spread of the new communication standard.
iPhone SE 2
During the first part of 2020 it could debut the expected iPhone SE 2. Analysts speculate a price of 399 Dollars and they speak of a body similar to iPhone 8. For many, however, it could also be called iPhone 9, to bridge the gap that has arisen between the eighth generation of Apple smartphones and iPhone X. iPhone SE 2 should show off a 4.7 inch LCD display, while under the body probably will find space the A13 processor present on iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. The presence of 3 gigabytes of RAM and Touch ID, instead of the Face ID.
The rear camera instead should be single lens, to keep production costs low, while the front camera will be the "classic" FaceTime HD. As for the memory options, there is talk of 64 and 128 gigabytes.
Some rumors published by DigiTimes, however, indicate the possible launch of two versions of the iPhone SE 2 in 2020. The site claimed that a second model could be slightly larger than the 4.7 inches of the base one. The analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, always one of the most reliable on the Apple world, however, continues to report that in 2020 the American company will launch four phones, a 4.7-inch iPhone SE 2 and three iPhone 12s, 5.4, 6.1 and 6.7 inches.
Apple Watch Series 6 and AirPods
Also in 2020 Apple will continue to focus on wearables, which have now become a real hen with golden eggs. AirPods are now a worldwide phenomenon, just go around the cities to realize it, that's why Apple probably intends to maximize this success by bringing a new variant of "classic" AirPods, to which the second generation of AirPods Pro could be added later this year.
Front Apple Watch, the presentation of the sixth generation is practically certain during the autumn keynote. In this regard, the rumors are not many, but we can hypothesize an improvement in performance thanks to a faster chip and better water resistance. The arrival of news from the health front is not to be excluded: Apple has repeatedly stressed that with Apple Watch it intends to improve people's lives, but after the debut of the heartbeat detector it has slowed down on the possible integration of a measuring device of the blood sugar, as currently available procedures are still too invasive.
The arrival of the long-awaited and talked about is more likely sleep monitoring, which could become the novelty of the sixth generation of the smartwatch.
iPad Pro
Some rumors that emerged a few months ago spoke of the possible presentation of the new iPad Pro in early 2020, which will occupy the same market segment of the professional tablets presented at the end of 2018.
The new generation iPad Pro could include a 3D camera that should also arrive on the iPhone 12 and will allow you to capture three-dimensional models and modify them with the Apple Pencil, also in the smell of novelty thanks to some recently filed patents that talk about integration of a photographic lens.
The new iPadOS has made the tablets of the Cupertino company even more similar to the Macbooks, despite the obvious limitations that even Tim Cook himself wanted to underline several times.
There is also talk of a High-end 12.9-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED display, but in this regard, no confirmations have arrived and other rumors that surfaced on the net spoke of ongoing negotiations between Apple and Samsung for the supply of OLED displays, which should bring significant advantages such as deeper blacks and better contrast.
From iOS to iPadOs via macOS
In June, as usual, Apple will hold the Worldwide Developers Conference, the annual developer conference during which it will announce the software innovations that will reach the products in the autumn.
The are expected new versions of iPadOs and iOS 14, on which however no indiscretions emerged. The operating systems for touch devices will also be accompanied by watchOS 7, which as mentioned above could include the sleep tracking feature, destined to become exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 6.
Substantial news could come instead from tvOS 14: Apple in 2019 has focused heavily on the home entertainment sector with the debut of Apple TV +, that's why the new tvOS could bring important additions. Obviously the game will also be macOS 10.16, Catalina's direct successor.
