Arctic and Jupiter Sound are Intel’s answer to the dedicated graphics card market

First, Intel surprised everyone with the cooperation it established with AMD, and in addition with the employment of Raja Koduri directly from the RTG department. The result of the cooperation were the Kaby Lake-G systems combining the Vega graphics system and the eighth generation Intel processor. But now it seems that such a combination is “blue“Not to the taste.

Ashraf Eassa, editor of The Motley, shared on his Twitter the names of Intel’s upcoming GPUs – Arctic and Jupiter Sound. These are likely to be a replacement for the aforementioned AMD product, which will make the Santa Clara giant independent in the segment of efficient APUs. Let’s just remind that the announced Kaby Lake-G systems offer performance reserved for dedicated graphics cards, so Intel has a lot to do over the previous HD Graphic series.

The latest leaks were not full of information on performance or specifications. Arctic Sound is to be a standalone GPU connected to a generation 12 processor via an EMIB bridge (just like in the case of Kaby Lake-G). Its successor will be Jupiter Sound, about which we only know that it will go to the package with the 13th generation CPU. Looking at today’s Intel offer (8th-generation Coffee Lake entered the market just four months ago), we can speculate that new graphics systems will reach us not earlier than 2020.
