Asus and EK Water Blocks are investing in the Geforce RTX 3000 with pre-assembled water blocks

When Nvidia unveiled the top graphics cards Geforce RTX 3090, RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 on September 1, it was clear that real improvements to the RTX 2000 series awaited, something that was also confirmed in SweClocker’s test lab. With the right performance also comes a high power output and the air coolers from both Nvidia and partner manufacturers are real donations.

In enthusiast circles, water cooling of graphics cards is perhaps a hotter alternative than usual, and one of the giants in that market is EK Water Blocks. For those who invest in tailor-made water cooling, this usually means installing a suitable water block at their own risk and placing the included air cooler on the shelf, but now Asus and EK Water Blocks are unveiling a collaboration. The result is spelled RTX 3000 series with pre-assembled water blocks.

Asus is responsible for the graphics cards and uses its own circuit board design, which is not the V-shaped variant seen in Nvidia’s Founders Edition. These are instead more traditional rectangular form factors that are powered by dual 8-pin PCI Express connectors instead of 12-pin. When it comes to picture connections, one HDMI 2.1 and three Displayport 1.4a are visible.

All cards occupy an expansion slot and the compact cooling solutions have a contact surface in nickel-plated copper, which reaches the graphics circuit, memories and voltage conversion. The water blocks are native to the Classic series and characteristic of the aesthetics are the transparent tops of acrylic plastic, which let through the glow from the built-in RGB lighting. The water blocks are also lined with a strip with the Asus logo and EK Water Blocks ditto.

The Geforce RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 models have the same format, with inlet and outlet for the water on the long sides of the cards. The RTX 3070 model is slightly shorter and the connections are instead found on the short side. The CNC-milled water channels therefore take slightly different paths to reach the fins located above the graphics circuit, but regardless of the card, an aluminum plate is included that covers the back.

The two most powerful models will be released globally in mid-November, while the Geforce RTX 3070 will follow up towards the end of the month. Information about points of sale and price is missing at the time of writing, but considering that EK Water Block’s existing Classic blocks cost around SEK 1,400, at least the same is likely to be added to Asus’ graphics card prices. It also remains to be seen how good the availability will be on these special cards.
