Australia's first offshore wind farms. We know the details

Australian company Energy Estate and BlueFloat Energy, based in Spain, have joined forces to create Australia’s first offshore wind farms. We know that a total of three farms will be built, two of which will be examples of floating farms, and will be installed off the coast of New South Wales, Australia, and one will be located off the coast of Victoria and will be embedded in the seabed.

Australia’s first offshore wind farms

In the developing renewable energy sector, countries currently have two options. They can either use the land and place many solar panels on it, or take advantage of the surrounding expanse of seas and oceans for wind farms many kilometers from the shore.

Today we have learned that Australia will finally benefit from the latter approach, with its energy grid enriched by offshore wind farms in the future. Talking about:

  • Hunter Coast Offshore Wind Project
  • Wollongong Offshore Wind Project
  • Greater Gippsland Offshor Project

The three farms will generate a total power of 4.3 gigawatts, but we do not know any schedule for any stage of the three projects.
