MOSCOW, 7 Sep — PRIME. Austria plans to “freeze” electricity prices from December 1 to June 30, 2024, said Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
“We agreed to introduce a price brake on electricity,” he said at a press conference following the government meeting.
According to Nehammer, the measure includes partial compensation by the state of the population’s electricity costs within the framework of consumption of 2,900 kWh. Thus, the household will be able to save around 500 euros per year, the Chancellor stressed.
He noted that the decision will be in effect, presumably, from December 1 and will be valid until June 30, 2024.
The decision to reduce the cost of electricity will be made on Wednesday, but announced at the end of July. It was supposed to start working in autumn.
