Be careful with your cryptocurrency wallets. Kraken is already waiting for you, bypassing Windows Defender

The network circulated information about the new Kraken malware, which, bypassing Windows Defender security, is able to steal information about cryptocurrency wallets.

Kraken malware is able to steal cryptocurrency wallets after infecting the system

The company ZeroFox informed about the case, which wrote about it, indicating that related security researchers have been tracking Kraken since October last year. This malware is aimed at Windows, which is constantly being actively developed and after hitting the system it is able not only to ensure its safety (even before the Windows Defender scan), but also to take screenshots, download and execute files, and even activate scripts, and primarily steal key data on cryptocurrency wallets.

According to ZeroFox, Kraken is primarily a stealer malware, i.e. intended to steal data (here mainly about virtual wallets). It is able to do this even despite the recent Windows Defender Exclusions update, which prevents you from viewing excluded folders and files without administrator privileges. This is what prevents hackers from putting malicious code into these folders and files, but most likely it doesn’t stop Kraken from just adding itself directly to Windows Defender’s exclusion list.
