Best-amd-mining-motherboard

Best amd mining motherboard – One of the most important components when assembling mining rigs is the motherboard. It must ensure the stable operation of the equipment and serves as a platform on which all other equipment is installed.

Motherboards for mining have specific features due to the fact that they must be able to install multiple video cards and they must support the possibility of round-the-clock uptime of the equipment.

Mining boards do not require many superfluous functions for them, which only increase the cost of equipment, for example, high-quality sound cards, various lights, decorations, rich bundles and other equipment that is unnecessary for them.

The main purpose of a mining motherboard is to serve as a reliable workhorse, where the word is reliable . Therefore, it is so important to know how to choose a motherboard for mining.

The best motherboards for mining

With all the seeming variety, there are not so many good motherboards for mining. If you carefully study the specialized forums, talk with experienced miners and service center employees, you can find out which metrics often break down, are inconvenient to set up, work unstably so as not to buy such equipment. You can make a list of the most reliable boards that are already used in mining, you have experience in setting them up and choose the most suitable from this equipment.

Top 5 best boards for mining:

A place:Motherboard name:Number of PCI slots for connecting video cards:Price:
1ASRock H81 PRO BTC R2.0 LGA 11506
2Gigabyte GA-B250-FinTech LGA 115112
3Asus PRIME Z270-A LGA 11517
4ASRock H110 PRO BTC LGA 115112
5Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P AMD AM3+5

Based on experience, the most reliable boards for mining are boards made by manufacturers such as ASRock and Asus . The products from Gigabyte and Biostar are also quite good . If you have enough funds, you can consider ASUS products that have a proprietary Thermal Armor protection technology . This will save the board from dust and moisture that can get on it during operation, and will also make sure that only the highest quality components are installed on the board and it has all the necessary protections.

Choosing a mining platform

When choosing a board platform in 2021, you must first pay attention to the following factors:

  • The number of available PCI-Express slots of any version.

This indicator determines the number of installed graphics accelerators and the power that the rig can develop when mining. There are PCI-E expansion slots for mining that can increase the number of available PCI-E ports, but not every board can support them.

As a last resort, you can use the M2 expansion slots if there is support for video cards on a specific board, but it is better not to use them for mining due to the unreliable contacts of the adapters from the M2 slot on the risers.

As a rule, the most common mining boards have 6 PCI-E slots, which makes it easy to set up a computer for mining and use one power supply for this.

You can ignore either the version of these ports or their bandwidth. A card with PCI-E 3.0 or PCI-E 2.0 will do.

The maximum slot bandwidth can vary from x1 to x16, this is important for gamers, but it does not matter for crypto mining. You connect the video card through a riser, and it is made in the PCI-E x1 format.

When deciding on the number of connectors for video cards, keep in mind that more is not always better. The board can have from 1 to 13 PCI-E ports from 1 to 13 pcs. A motherboard that has less than 4 slots is not worth buying. Although, in principle, even in a board with one port, you can connect 4 graphics adapters using a splitter. But, nevertheless, a reasonable minimum is a motherboard for 4 video cards.

If funds permit, it is recommended to choose a motherboard with a margin for the future. The extra slot will come in handy for farm expansion upgrades. Plus, the price of a baseboard is lower than a single powerful graphics card. But, keep in mind a rig in which more than eight video cards are more complex in settings and more often malfunctions.

  • Reliability of processor power supply circuits.

Due to the 24/7 operation of the equipment, these circuits are subject to constant heating. In the case of using a powerful processor in the rig, which is used for mining cryptocurrencies like Monero, the electronic elements that provide power to the processor have a very large load. Based on this, it is better to choose motherboards with as many processor power phases as possible and equipped with heatsinks. In the case of using the cheapest dummy processor, this parameter is not so critical, but it still matters, because one of the most frequent breakdowns of motherboards is the failure of transistors that provide power to the processor, which, as a rule, leads to failure processor.

In other words, if you are going to not only run a gpu rig, but also work with the RandomX algorithm on a central processor, you will need a motherboard with a CPU power zone cooling (VRM). Otherwise, the elements will burn out under high load. The board and, accordingly, the cpu will work 24/7, and if the processor is also overclocked, and this must be done to increase profits, the load will increase significantly.

  • The use of high quality components and high build quality.

It is desirable that the electrolytic capacitors on the board are solid-state, produced by well-known manufacturers, the transistors in the power circuits have a power reserve, good heatsinks on the chipset and power circuits are installed.

High build quality, application of varnish that protects the tracks on the board, the overall high quality of soldering, and the absence of traces of flux will help to ensure sufficient reliability in the future.

  • The presence of a variety of protection methods.
Read This Now:   Equihash Mining - Algorithm for Home Computers (Token and Equihash protocol)

It is desirable that the board is protected as much as possible from dust, moisture, electrostatic shock, supply voltage problems. This will increase the overall reliability of the system.

  • Reasonable value for money.

During the crypto boom, PC component makers launched a dedicated line of mining-focused motherboards. Typically these devices are labeled “BTC”.

They lack all sorts of bells and whistles, for example, an improved audio codec or additional connectors for hard drives and SSDs. But, on the other hand, the printed circuit board is thicker and an upgraded PCI-E power subsystem is installed. Some of them are really very popular with miners, but still it cannot be unequivocally stated that they are much superior to “gaming” boards as the basis for a mining farm. Ordinary motherboards can have approximately the same set of slots and the price (with the exception of top-end models) is not much different. And the choice of such devices is much larger than specialized boards.

  • The presence of additional functions useful for mining.

For more convenient operation of the equipment, it is desirable that they be equipped with buttons that allow turning on and restarting directly from the board.

When using outdated risers without additional power supply, additional power connectors for PCI-E circuits are required. When using modern risers that provide high-quality power decoupling, the presence of additional power connectors is not critical, but still indicates the manufacturer’s concern for the board’s reliability.

  • Guaranteed support for multiple video cards and ease of customization of the board.

Some motherboards have many PCI-E slots, but many video cards cannot be run on them due to lack of BIOS support or other issues. In this case, using the Linux operating system and updating the BIOS can help , but it is better to make sure at the stage of choosing a board that it supports the simultaneous operation of video cards installed in all its PCI-E slots, as well as that there are no configuration problems.

Therefore, it is worth considering proven options for motherboards that are guaranteed to ensure reliable operation of mining farms. There are proven options for reliable rigs with 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12 or more cards. When assembling rigs for more than 12 video cards, it must be borne in mind that no more than 12 AMD cards can be run simultaneously on Windows 10 of the latter , or it is necessary to combine AMD and NVidia cards in one rig, which is fraught with certain difficulties.

There is protection against static, impulse overloads in the local network, protection of power circuits and over temperature.

Best Review on Amazon ( Biostar Motherboard TB250-BTC LGA 1151}: Given that this board is advertised as a mining board, it definitely wasn’t the easiest thing to get up and running. In fact, when I first tried to power it on, I assumed like everyone else that I had received a board that was DoA. I had a 6th generation Celeron CPU installed, which should mean that no BIOS update was required in order for the CPU to work. However, each attempt to turn it on would result in the same behavior — the CPU and GPU fans would spin about a half turn, and then all power to the board would stop.

Best Review on Amazon (Gigabyte GA-Z370P D3 RTL LGA1151): I see a lot of reviews for the Aorus models but not the little Z370P D3. Let’s try to fix that: I bought this motherboard as a cheap emergency alternative to a DOA ASRock. The Z370P D3 works just fine, and seems rock solid despite being the entry level product for this line. I don’t need any fancy bells and whistles, just some RAM slots, my 970, and my new 8600K. The CPU is absolutely awesome so far, and they have mouse support in the BIOS (nifty!) with a preset option for just keeping all the cores on the max turbo speed (4.3). No BIOS updating needed. For this guy who’s too lazy to exhaustively find my peak overclock, and only has a HYPER 212 Evo, that does the trick

It supports 6th Gen Intel processors, including the installation of the engineering Core i7-6400T processors available for purchase in China, as well as cheap Celerons. The board is equipped with additional connectors for powering PCI-E circuits and has good operating stability. The processor is powered by 7 power phases without a heatsink.

Best Amazon Review (ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ 13GPU Mining Motherboard Cryptocurrency): I fried one with a cheap psu. They worked great. Here is a tip: 1) If you use NVME, get the right one. Newer ones do not work as well as a lot of the old ones. It is picky. 2) Install windows with no GPUs hooked up and FLASH THE BIOS. It is easy and the website tells you how to. 3) If you have more than 3 GPUs. Use the Sata AND top Molex power sources. DO NOT USE BOTH MOLEX PLUGS!!!! I do not care what Asrock says! 4) If you are using 12 cards or less. DO NOT USE THE PCI-E16. Relevance of buying used motherboards

Boo motherboards for mining

Due to the fact that the main requirement for a motherboard used in mining is the presence of as many PCI-Express slots as possible, then if you have limited funds, you can consider buying used equipment. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the degree of its wear, the presence of support for the simultaneous operation of several video cards at once and good power lines for the processor. It is necessary to understand that mining on old motherboards, which have partially exhausted their resource, can ultimately lead to additional costs associated with repairs, increased power consumption, difficulties with setting up equipment and its unstable operation.

When buying a used motherboard, originally intended for mining, you need to understand that it has already partially worked out its resource, as well as the fact that a possible reason for the sale is the presence of problems with it associated with instability, the inability to simultaneously run several video cards, as well as other problems that nobody needs.

Conclusion

Choosing the right motherboard is a very important prerequisite for the continued smooth operation of your mining farm. A cheap mining board is not always a good choice. Therefore, when choosing it, you need to carefully study the available nuances and subtleties, so as not to waste time, nerves and money in the future on eliminating various problems.
