Booking.com CEO believes that bitcoin, blockchain and cryptocurrency will be used en masse

The Chief Executive of Booking Holdings, the company behind Booking.com, Priceline, Kayak, Cheapflights and Rentalcares, believes that cryptocurrency’s will soon be widely accepted. Glenn Fogel told Skift that he believes that blockchain will continue to grow around the world.

Space for crypto and blockchain

If you have ever traveled, booked a hotel or Googled at someone else’s holiday address, you inevitably came across one of the companies of Booking Holdings. The company has a huge impact on the global tourism industry. And now the CEO of this influential company is positive about cryptocurrency. He is bullish about the potential of crypto and blockchain.

In an interview with Skift, Fogel said that there is room for a new form of global currency that is protected and secured. It is not clear whether he means bitcoin by this. Fogel is convinced that blockchain is being further developed, so that even more people and companies use blockchain. Interestingly, Fogel also believes that cryptocurrency has a good chance of success outside the US. The reason he thinks cryptos are more likely to succeed outside the US is because there is a well-accepted credit card payment system in the United States.

Important role in evolution

Fogel believes that the future will ultimately be completely digital. He sees a future in which most payments are made via smartphones. Cash is hardly used any more as the digital economy becomes increasingly important. And blockchain technology and cryptocurrencys play an important, central role in this evolution.

Despite his long-term optimism about cryptocurrency, none of the Booking Holdings companies accept bitcoin or other crypto currencies. But this is the first time Fogel has been publicly positive about cryptos, perhaps this is a prelude to acceptance of cryptos at one of its companies?

Node turning for Libra

Booking Holdings has recently expressed support for Facebook’s crypto. They have the intention to become one of the founding partners of the Libra Association, which means that Booking will run a node on the Libra network.

It is quite conceivable that if Libra continues, you can book Booking with this coin on Facebook with this coin.
