Brave Wallet: Brave integrates a crypto wallet in the browser

Brave Wallet, a new crypto wallet, is now available in Brave Browser. The integrated wallet allows Brave users to “store, manage, grow and exchange their crypto portfolio from a single wallet.”

Since it is integrated, it does not require an extension or applications that users need to install. However, Brave Browser is required and that limits the availability of the platforms the browser is available on. Brave Browser is initially only available for desktop versions of Brave, but a mobile Brave Wallet will be available “soon” according to Brave. Syncing between Brave Browser instances is also not supported at this time, but Brave hopes to release syncing soon as well.

Brave Wallet is compatible with all EVM-compatible chains (Polygon, xDai, Avalanche, etc.) and L2 and, unlike other wallet extensions, Brave Wallet is built with an open MPL license, allowing developers to do contributions easily.

Brave Wallet supports “almost any crypto asset” according to the announcement. Activate the Brave Wallet icon on the main browser toolbar to get started, or load brave: // wallet / crypto / onboarding directly to open the onboarding page.

You will be asked to set a password to protect the wallet. Brave’s minimum requirements are quite low: 7 characters, at least one number, and one special character.

Once you have set the password, you will have the option of backing up the crypto wallet; this step is optional. If you select to continue, you will get a 12 word recovery phrase, which you can use to recover primary crypto accounts.

Once you are out of the way, you will be taken to the main Wallet page in Brave. There you will see an overview of your assets and their development over time. Options to buy, send and exchange crypto currency are provided on the page.

Brave users can create additional accounts, import them from the local system, or connect Ledger and Trezor hardware wallets to the browser, as well as use the account management option. Options to continue using other wallets, for example Brave’s legacy Crypto Wallets, or third-party wallets as well, if you prefer.

Brave users can use Wallet to store BAT, which they can earn in the browser through its advertising feature. The wallet itself is free to use, according to Brave. Transactions, on the other hand, require “gas fees, and exchanges may also include an additional transaction fee,” which will be “similar to or the same as other crypto wallets.”

Closing words

Brave Wallet is natively integrated into Brave Browser; this alone can attract Brave users, especially those who use it to earn BAT currency while using it. Several features are not yet available, including syncing or support for mobile versions of Brave; this limits the solution and some users may prefer to wait and consider changing or starting to use it once these missing options are available.
