compact liquid cooling system for central processor – Last year we already tested the CoolIT Freezone air-liquid-thermoelectric cooling system from CoolIT Systems. Let me remind you that at that time, a very original and immediately combining three principles of cooling, the system did not demonstrate anything impressive and gave way to a good air cooler. Moreover, Freezone also cost a lot of money. As it turned out, CoolIT engineers did not stop at what they had not achieved and recently announced a new cooling system. CoolIT PURE – a simpler and cheaper system, which also costs almost three times cheaper than Freezone. Today’s article will tell you how successful the new product is and what its effectiveness is.
packaging and equipment
The new cooling system comes in a relatively small box, which is mostly black, but with CoolIT PURE photos on the front and back:
There you can also find the technical characteristics of the system and a list of supported platforms. Inside the cardboard box there is a foam insert with two compartments, the largest of which contains the main unit of the system, and the small additional one contains the accessories of the delivery set:
Despite the seemingly secure packaging, the device turned out to be slightly damaged, but I will tell you more about this a little later. Now let’s look at the components of the cooling system:

Separate bags contain mounting kits for each type of connector, bushings, washers, screws, wrench and wire brackets for fastening the water block. Nearby you can find instructions for installing CoolIT PURE. We do not know the recommended cost of the new cooling system, but it can already be purchased in the retail network for only $ 95.
design features
The CoolIT PURE cooling system is a single unit consisting of a radiator with a fan, a pump and a water block connected to the pump and radiator by two flexible non-transparent braided hoses:
The top of the pump is covered with an aluminum plate, which most likely performs a decorative function rather than some kind of practical one:
The pump is mounted on a metal stand, which, in turn, is screwed to the radiator. On the other side of the radiator, a plastic frame with a fan is attached:
Little is known about the pump. Its capacity is 210 l / h with a bearing life of 50 thousand hours. Consumption does not exceed 8 (± 0.5) watts, and the noise level should be less than 15 dBA. Unfortunately, neither the manufacturer of the pump, nor such an important indicator of pressure as the height of the water rise are known.
Above the pump, on a metal stand, a small board is fixed, on which a Molex-type connector and three connectors are soldered: one for powering and monitoring the fan, the second for powering and monitoring the pump, and the third for an incomprehensible purpose, since a two-pin wire goes from it to a small one. a box glued to the top aluminum plate:
In turn, two wires also leave this part, closing in the perimeter of a pale green substrate glued to the plate:
As it turned out, this is just an illumination of the CoolIT logo on the front side of the plate, and not a thermoelectric module, as one might have assumed at first.
The fine-mesh radiator of the cooling system is made of aluminum. Despite the foam packaging with compartments, during transportation, the water block bent several radiator fins with its corners:
All edges were fixed before testing. I will add that an expansion tank is combined on one of the sides of the radiator. No holes for refueling the system were found (apparently one of the hoses will have to be removed), and the manufacturer has not reported the composition of the coolant, unfortunately.
The fan is cooled by a 7-blade 120 x 120 x 25 mm fan, manufactured by NoiseBlocker:
Moreover, the radiator is cooled by an air flow, which is sucked through the radiator fins by the fan and then thrown out of the system case. Judging by the markings on the motor sticker, the CoolIT PURE is equipped with a NoiseBlocker XL2 rev. 2.0. According to the monitoring data obtained, its rotation speed changes automatically in the range from ~ 1000 rpm in the no-load mode to ~ 2000 rpm at the peak of the processor load. The fan bearing service life is 100,000 hours and the maximum noise level should not exceed 27 dBA. By the way, here the characteristics of CoolIT are at odds with the data given on the NoiseBlocker website, since there is a maximum noise level of 21 dBA.
The manufacturer tells us a minimum of information about the water block. Its dimensions are 50.0 x 50.0 x 24.1 mm, copper coated with a thin layer of nickel-containing alloy is used as a material, and the internal structure consists of microchannels. The weight of the water block is 125 grams.
If you paid attention to the waterblock shown in the photo of the cooling system on the package, and compare it with the photo above, it becomes obvious that we have a completely different waterblock than the one shown in the photo on the package. There are other sizes, and a different arrangement of fittings. Quite an interesting point, I must say. What is it – we got some kind of early revision, or is the photo on the box just a picture of the prototype? Be that as it may, we do not have to choose, we will test as it is. By the way, CoolIT PURE uses exactly the same water block as in the CoolIT Freezone we tested earlier.
On the base of the water block 1 mm thick, a white thermal interface with a thick consistency is applied:
To avoid accidental removal of thermal paste, the water block is carefully closed with a plastic cover. The surface of the nickel-plated base is exceptionally smooth and high-quality polished. No modification is required here.
installing a cooling system on motherboards
Taking into account the fact that CoolIT PURE is supplied fully assembled and filled, to start using it, you just need to install the system inside the case of the system unit, having previously secured the water block to the processor. For this, a set of stands, screws and washers is used, which is individual for each type of connector. In turn, the water block is pressed against the processor by two wire fasteners, which are attracted by curly screws to the stands. All this in the assembled and installed state looks like this:
At the same time, the pressure of the water block is strong enough, and the slots and fastenings in the central pillar of the water block do not allow it to even turn a little on the thinnest layer of the thermal interface. True, you will have to apply this thinnest layer yourself, since that millimeter layer applied to the base of the water block at the factory can be useful only for novice overclockers and housewives. Looking ahead, I note that during testing we used the Arctic Silver 5 thermal interface, and the original layer of thermal paste was removed from the base surface without testing.
Well, after installing the water block, all that remains is to screw the fan and the entire system to the rear wall of the case. As you understand, for this, there must be a seat on the wall for a 120 x 120 x 25 mm fan, otherwise it will be impossible to install CoolIT PURE without modification and homemade adapters.
The liquid cooling system installed inside the case of the system unit looks as follows:
All that remains is to connect a cable with a Molex-type connector from the power supply to the corresponding block on the CoolIT PURE, and also connect the three-pin cable from the fan to the corresponding connector on the motherboard. That’s it, the system is ready for use. The whole procedure takes no more than 10 minutes (even taking into account the need to dismantle the motherboard from the case of the system unit). It remains to add that the CoolIT logo on the aluminum cover of the cooling system is really highlighted during operation (blue light).
