Computex 2020, Ryzen 4000 to give prestige to the fair?

The debut of the new CPUs AMD Ryzen 4000 in the desktop environment at the moment an "affair" straddles between end of third quarter and beginning of fourth quarter. Recently there has been rumors of the arrival of the new processors – together with the Navi 2X GPUs – in October. According to what can be guessed from the presentations of AMD, October looks like a plausible window. In these hours the Digitimes (via Techpowerup), citing sources among the manufacturers of motherboards, nevertheless spoke of September.

A month or the other changes little would be said, but according to us the sources are simply using two "different months" to say the same thing. We do not know the plans of AMD, ours is a sensation and as such should be understood, but the role of Computex, the fair that takes place in Taipei every year, in the context of the technology industry.

This year, due to Coronavirus, the organizers were forced to change the date of the event from June 2nd to 6th in end of September, precisely between 28 and 30 September. At first we thought of a Computex in a lower tone, also because of the shorter duration, and in fact a little will be so.

However, we also know the importance of the fair for local companies: names like Asus, MSI and Gigabyte particularly care about its success. So how do you reawaken media and consumer attention if not hosting a big ad? That great event could be – among others – the presentation of Ryzen 4000 and new platforms Taiwanese motherboard makers are probably starting to work on.

With Ryzen 3000 AMD has made an important change in its relations with the motherboard manufacturers and it is reasonable to expect that the company not only wants to consolidate them, but also to relaunch them. Consequently, presenting its most important innovations in the partner house, as it did in part last year, has its own logic. The fact that we are talking about September and October appears only one detail, given that the fair falls at the end of September and the actual availability of the products would arrive only from October.

Ours, we repeat, is only a conjecture which, however, we believe has its own thread. In a sense, it is also a cue for Computex organizers, in case they haven't thought about it. All this, of course, on the basis that the event is held and the situation related to the pandemic improves.

AMD will have a rather intense end of the year, we cannot forget it, and many choices related to the presentation of new products, from processors to video cards in particular, will be marked by the debut of the Xbox Series X and Playstation 5, consoles of which AMD is part fundamental and that surely the company will try to exploit as a flywheel to create interest in PC solutions.
