Coronavirus and online shopping: Carrefour, Esselunga, Tigros and Amazon websites in tilt

The big chains for food distribution like Carrefour, Esselunga and Tigros they have been equipped for some time now online systems that allow those who have to shop to carefully select products, taking advantage of promotions and offers, and receive safely shopping at home. The service works not only in large population centers, but also in smaller urban areas.

There online shopping could represent a very valid solution in these times of Coronavirus emergency, in which citizens are asked to stay home as much as possible. You can only go out for mandatory work issues or for health reasons or for the purchase of essential goods, according to the decrees-laws issued to contain the spread of the infection. But unfortunately, the network or organizational infrastructures of these chains are going haywire.

Online shopping is a service that I have already tried in the past, and that I wanted to try again in these days of alert for contagion. I said to myself: why work from home if I have to go to a supermarket where there are many people?

Online shopping is widely used especially in the city, with an increasing number of people who rely on it, given the simplicity and precision with which you can make the selection of products to buy. In some cases, moreover, there are promotions (and transport costs are not paid), for older people.

For a few days now, the Carrefour site has been slow and unresponsive, and it is almost impossible to complete the selection of products and proceed to the shopping cart. By switching to the app available on App Store is Play Store things don't improve much.

The Esselunga website is more efficient, allowing you to choose products easily and quickly and to proceed to the shopping cart. Here, however, we come up against the harsh reality: the delivery bands are full of requests and it is not possible to book your home delivery even in two weeks. After making the careful selection of products, therefore, everything turns out to be useless.

Amazon Prime Now also makes home deliveries, however only in big cities like Milan, Rome and Turin. For some time now, Prime Now has delivered orders in the preferred 2-hour period at a cost of € 3.49 for orders under € 50 and without additional costs for orders over € 50 or € 7.99 in 1 hour. On the site you can read the indication: "Limited availability: due to high demand, delivery bands may be limited". In fact, Amazon has not accepted orders for a few days now.

Finally, Tigros displays these signs on its website. Once you get to the cart, the only selectable option is the "Tigros Drive", that is, you can select your shopping from home and then collect it physically by going to the dedicated space near the supermarket. The latter, at this moment, seems the best option to avoid contact with people as much as possible.
