The repair specialist iFixit is building a database to collect repair information for machinery and medical equipment from around the world, due to the growing demand caused by the spread of the new coronavirus and pathology COVID-19 associated with it.
In particular iFixit is looking for repair manuals for fans and BiPAP machines which can be used as a fan. The iFixit database can be viewed publicly, and the site is asking everyone's help to create new pages for devices and upload photos and manuals.
The reason behind this simple project: with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the experience of Chinese and Italian hospitals then suggests that the availability of fans will be particularly small, also giving rise to the need for these machines to be repaired quickly in case of malfunction. These machines, as we have come to know these days, are fundamental for the treatment of patients who have a particularly compromised respiratory picture.
There are currently few sources for finding repair manuals online. iFixit emphasizes the existence of resources such as the Frank's Hospital Workshop, but of relatively limited scope. Some manufacturers offer easy access to repair manuals on their websites, while others are more difficult to find.
The iFixit project doesn't just collect manuals, but a standardize the information contained in such a way as to make it as comprehensible as possible, in addition to dividing the manual into guides for the repair of individual elements, and reformatting everything to make it more SEO-friendly (that is more easily indexed by search engines) and finally to translate it into other languages as well.
