Covid-19: Stellar to donate 2.5M XLM to charities

The Stellar foundation committed to distribute 2.5 million of Lumens XLM, or just over 100,000 euros, to several non-profit associations who help the world cope with the crisis current.

On her blog, the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF), the entity in charge of developing the blockchain network Stellar, announced that it is using its digital coin pool XLM to support charities working on the "pressing challenges" that the planet is currently facing following the crisis related to coronavirus.

The world is facing an unprecedented crisis and, at the Stellar Development Foundation, we think we can help. The SDF has XLM reserves. Stellar has an active community. We are committed to donating 2.5 million XLM to support a group of charities, "she said.

The foundation has already selected 6 associations including Tor Project, Freedom of the Press or the United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF.

It also calls on the holders of Lumens XLM to perform donations additional via the philanthropic organization's website Lumenthropy.

Last month, two seasoned investors launched a $ 10 million fund to help companies specializing in cryptocurrency and blockchain cope with the current crisis.
