Estonia did not understand the decision to send an LNG terminal to Finland

Earlier, the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure of Estonia, Riina Sikkut, said after a meeting with her Finnish counterpart Mika Lintilä that the LNG terminal, through which Estonia will be supplied with gas, will go to a berth under construction in Finland this winter.

Martti Talgre, Executive Director of Infortar, noted that Alexela and Infortar built a berth in the city of Paldiski on the order of the state and with the knowledge that a floating LNG terminal would come to Estonia. “From spring until today, we have been assured that if we prepare the berth by the deadline, the floating terminal will go to Paldiski. Until now, all our efforts have been based on this. We did not assume that the floating LNG terminal would not come to Paldiski at all,” he told ERR.

The executive director of the Estonian Gas Union, Heiko Heitur, added that he did not understand how Estonian companies would gain access to the terminal.

The Ministry of Economy and Communications, as well as the system administrator of the Elering enterprise, have previously stated that there will be no shortage of gas in the region.

“But if we look at Estonian gas sellers, both the Ministry of Economy and Elering are well aware that supplies next year should come from the new terminal. Therefore, if gas sellers do not have access to the Finnish terminal, then there will be nowhere to get gas from. “, Heitur said.
