Facebook fell victim to hackers. Tens of millions of victims possible

Facebook padł ofiarą hackerów

Fortunately, I am writing about it for you not on the basis of leaks or rumors, but an official statement by the authorities of the largest social networking site. It turned out that today (September 28) Facebook fell victim to hackers, in which 50 million accounts could be hit.

Once again, it’s not about using so many accounts, but about getting the information and login details posted there. You probably noticed a few hours ago that you were logged out of Facebook and Messenger on all devices for no explanation. Of course, this was not a coincidence, but a preventive action related to the hacker attack, in which over 90 million accounts were “involved”. As it turned out, the key to the attack was the function of suspecting one’s profile from the “eyes of other users” and the service for uploading videos to Facebook. Attackers took advantage of security gaps and stole account access keys (access tokens).

Facebook officials don’t know the origin of the attack, the identity of the hackers… or even the scale. The case is currently at an early stage of investigation, but cybercriminals are said to have gained access and data from around 50 million accounts. We will probably have to wait a few days for detailed information. Traditionally, all we can do is change our Facebook password.
