Far Cry 6 will only offer RayTracing technology in its PC version

Far Cry 6 is already around the corner (October 7) and new details have been revealed around the game, such as that RayTracing has not been implemented in its version for consoles, Google Stadia or Amazon Luna, so it will be an exclusive feature of PC users.

Also for PC will be exclusive the use of rescaling technology AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (AMD FSR), which will help users with humble hardware increase the fluidity of the game. All this information was provided by Stephanie Brenham, lead developer of the Ubisoft 3D team, in an interview with Wccftech.

Does Far Cry 6 have the same graphics engine seen in New Dawn? If so, how have you improved it for this new installment of the franchise?

We have made several improvements. To name just a few: we’ve added GPU culling to reduce CPU workload and better utilize hardware resources; to support lush tropical forests, we’ve added instancing GPUs to reduce drawing overhead in dense biomes; And, to meet our performance targets in cities, we’ve added DCC support to take advantage of the similarities in colors found in urban environments.

Will the PC and next-gen consoles enjoy any technological advantages over the PS4 and XB1 versions, such as more NPCs, more detailed physics, etc.?

Also, do you plan to allow owners of next-gen consoles to select between a performance mode and a graphics mode, as most games do today?

There are some common benefits that both next-gen consoles and PCs enjoy. Among them, better LODs, drawing distances, better ocean simulation and HD textures. The new consoles also have 4K @ 60 FPS. The PC has DXR Reflections & Shadows, Fidelity FX (FSR, CAS), Unlocked FPS, ultra-wide display support, and adjustable FOV.

Why did you choose the RayTracing with hybrid reflexes?

We chose the hybrid RayTracig because it has the best balance between quality and performance and allows us to support DXR even on mid-range hardware. In this way, more players can enjoy RayTracing in scenarios where SSLR is impossible to use due to technological limitations.

Are you using the FidelityFX denoiser or a custom one?

We are using a custom denoiser for RayTracing’s hybrid approach.

Will the RayTracing on PS5 and Xbox Series S | X? If so, how will it compare to the PC version?

RayTracing is a PC exclusive feature. On consoles, our goal has been to take advantage of new hardware capabilities, optimizing performance with the goal of hitting 4K and 60 FPS, for example, while ensuring that new game features such as our weather system dynamic, are compatible with all platforms.

The PC recommendations you just posted did not take into account AMD FSR. How much performance improves when FSR is activated?

The FSR is an option that we offer to our PC gamers, and the performance improvement seen with the FSR really depends on the hardware configuration. It’s a feature that can help gamers reach higher final resolutions with smoother framerates.

Will Far Cry 6 include AMD FSR on consoles?

FSR is a feature that we have developed in collaboration with AMD for PC.

After working on the new generation systems, which of its hardware characteristics (compatibility with RayTracing SSD drives, audio, etc.) has caught your attention the most?

Each of these features contributes to a new level of quality that should define the next generation experience. However, SSDs are probably the difference that immediately catches your eye. Loading in moments instead of minutes is obviously fantastic and also offers us a different paradigm compared to the hard drives of older consoles.

For Variable Rate Shading, are you using Tier 1 or Tier 2 support? What performance improvement can PC gamers expect when activating it in Far Cry 6?

We’ve actually focused on other new PC enhancements, working hard to take advantage of those
powerful and unique features that I mentioned before.

In the realm of the PC, Microsoft has introduced DirectStorage on the PC. Do you think it will be a significant improvement for PC gamers, especially in open world titles like Far Cry?

DirectStorage significantly improves data load times. We anticipate that it can be a significant improvement for open world games, which need to upload and download large amounts of data to support unpredictable player movements around the game world.
