French EDF announced the completion of work on three nuclear power units

PARIS, 4 Oct – PRIME. The French energy company EDF, which is the operator of French nuclear power plants, said it had completed repairs at three nuclear reactors, AFP reported on Tuesday, citing the corporation’s communiqué.

“Repair work at three power units affected by corrosion on the welds connected to the primary circuit of the pipes of the emergency reactor cooling system has been completed,” the agency said.

We are talking about the rectors at the NPP “Buzhe”, the Shinon NPP and the NPP “Kattenom”.

France currently has 28 nuclear reactors in operation out of 56 nuclear power units.

In May of this year, the French Nuclear Safety Agency (ASN) revealed traces of corrosion on 12 nuclear reactors, which later led to their shutdown.

EDF has pledged to restart all shutdown nuclear power units by winter to avoid power shortages in the country.

Electricite de France (EDF) is the largest French state-owned energy company in France and the world’s largest operator of nuclear power plants. It operates 56 nuclear power plants, providing electricity to 25 million homes.

Earlier on Tuesday, the media reported that the French state had officially launched the process of nationalization of the corporation. The deal will amount to 9.7 billion euros.
