Gamescom 2020: only the digital edition confirmed, no fair open to the public

Just a couple of weeks ago we wrote, with this news, about the organization 's decision Cologne Gamescom to confirm the online part of the event scheduled for the end of August. For what is the main European event related to the world of video games, scheduled from 25 to 29 August in Cologne, it was indeed confirmed the performance in an online form on the original dates.

The German government has announced a national freeze on all public eventsi who gather a large number of participants until the end of August, as a form of containment of the pandemic from COVID-19. The direct consequence of all this is that Gamescom 2020 will only be held in the digital format, without any kind of physical presence between the halls of the Cologne fairgrounds.

At the present time, no specific details have yet been anticipated on how to carry out this all digital edition of Gamescom, but it seems obvious that in this format the fair will not be able to cover everything that was originally expected in physical form.

The 2020 edition of the Berlin IFA remains in limbo for the time being, scheduled from 4 to 9 September: technically these dates are outside the ban period set by the German government but it is to be understood if the conduct of the fair will be confirmed or if this event will also be canceled, or transformed for 2020 into an edition digital only. There is still time to decide but it is desirable that a clear direction can be taken by the end of the month of May: for the time being no indication from the organizers, with the dates and the course being confirmed in the classic formula.
