Last week, AMD unveiled its graphics card Radeon RX 6700 XT, the company’s first RDNA 2-based graphics card intended for the upper middle class. During the presentation, performance was promised that gives Nvidia’s Geforce RTX 3070 a match, but now preliminary performance figures from Geekbench are found that indicate that the new card’s raw performance is significantly lower than that.
The report comes from TUM_APISAK (via Videocardz), and delivers an OpenCL score of 102,831, as well as 55,278 points for the Vulcan test. The numbers certainly only measure theoretical performance against said APIs, but the RX 6700 XT falls behind against cards from both AMD and Nvidia – only in the OpenCL test does the card succeed in beating the Geforce RTX 3060 on the fingers.

The results from Geekbench do not necessarily have a major impact on gaming performance, but it is still worth noting that AMD’s selected target RTX 3070 performs 81 and 31 percent better in these synthetic tests. Another curiosity worth mentioning is that the test software for both RX 6700 XT results reported a maximum frequency of 2.85 GHz, over 400 MHz higher than AMD’s own “up to” frequencies stated during the company’s premiere.
AMD’s new combatant Radeon RX 6700 XT is gifted with 12 GB of GDDR6 memory and 40 computing units and will be launched on March 18 – with a recommended price tag of 479 USD, corresponding to approximately 5,000 kronor.
