The Pascal architecture and the new process technology brought the possibility of a significant increase in GPU clock speeds. In GPU Boost mode, the GPU can reach a frequency of 1.8 GHz. Together with an improved texture compression algorithm, this brings GeForce 10-series graphics cards to a whole new level of performance. At the same time, energy consumption has decreased due to the use of FinFET transistors.

NVIDIA introduced the GeForce GTX 1060 in two versions. Their differences lie in the number of universal processors and the amount of video memory. So the first option has 1280 CUDA cores and 6 GB of video memory, and the second one has 1152 CUDA cores and 3 GB of memory. There is also a difference in the number of texture units – 80 and 72, respectively. In other parameters, these models are identical, including power consumption. In practice, the difference in performance between these two modifications is approximately 7-9 percent. Accordingly, the price of the version with 3 gigabytes will be lower. Consider the technical characteristics of new items in comparison with its predecessor GeForce GTX 960.

The minimum system power requirement for the GeForce GTX 1060 is 400W. The critical temperature of the video card is at around 94 ° C.

*For testing, the following bench configuration was used: Intel Core i5-6600 processor, ASUS Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard, 16 GB G.Skill RAM, Plextor PX-256M6Pro SSD, Corsair AX1500i power supply, Windows 10 (64 Bit) operating system. NVIDIA GeForce driver version: 375.95 (Metro Exodus, FarCry ND – 419.17).

In gaming and synthetic tests, the performance of the GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB of video memory significantly outperforms its predecessor GeForce GTX 960, approaching the recent flagship GeForce GTX 980. And the model with 3 GB of memory, as noted above, is inferior to it by an average of 8%, and in performance is at the level of GeForce GTX 970. As for the price, it is $299 for the reference model with 6 GB of video memory, but reference video cards will not be officially delivered to Russia. The market should be filled with partner models with an average cost of $249. At the beginning of 2017, the average price for a GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB in Russian online stores is 18,500 rubles, and the 3 GB version costs around 15,500 rubles. And for this money we get video cards with very decent performance. As they say, there is progress.
