GeForce GTX 1070 Ti: Overview | 3DMark benchmark| Testing – Is it Good for Gaming? – As a result of the competition imposed by AMD in the face of the Radeon RX Vega 56 video card, NVIDIA presented its answer by releasing a “titanium” version of the GeForce GTX 1070. The updated seventy with the “Ti” prefix, according to the manufacturer’s plan, should move AMD’s competitor on the market. And in our opinion, the novelty has every chance for this.
The “green” corporation rightly hears quite frequent reproaches regarding the high cost of its products. However, this time it is unlikely that NVIDIA will be blamed. The price of the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti, set at $449 (33,990 rubles), can be called quite reasonable. In Russian money, the recommended price for the new product differs from the cost of the GTX 1070 by only 2400 rubles. And for a significantly increased performance, this difference is very small. But first things first.

Considering the characteristics of the presented video cards, we can conclude that the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti is more of a simplified GTX 1080 than an improved GTX 1070. Unlike the seventieth model, the manufacturer activated four additional shader multiprocessors in the GPU, which adds a total of 512 cores to the graphics core CUDA and 32 TMUs.
The upper limit of the clock frequency of the video processor when the boost mode was activated remained at the level of the younger model – 1683 MHz, but the base value was equalized with the 1080 model and amounted to 1607 MHz. It is known that NVIDIA categorically insisted that manufacturing partners do not engage in factory overclocking. However, the overclocking procedure remains fully accessible for users. With a competent approach to “overclocking”, the performance of the new video card may well reach the level of its older sister GeForce 1080 and even surpass it. The manufacturer set the TDP limit of the new product at + 20%, by analogy with the GTX 1080 model. Recall that the reference GTX 1070 has a TDP limit of + 12%.
Regarding the cooling system of the reference version, we note that it completely migrated from the GTX 1080, however, like the whole appearance. Plus or minus – you decide. Video outputs on the front panel are standard: DL DVI-D, DisplayPort 1.3/1.4, HDMI 2.0b.
With regard to the support of modern technologies, everything is expected here. Multi-Projection, VR Ready, Ansel, SLI Ready, G-SYNC, GameStream, Microsoft DirectX 12 API, Vulkan API, OpenGL 4.5 are supported.
Performance in 3DMark benchmark
GeForce GTX 1070 | GeForce GTX 1070 Ti | AMD Radeon RX Vega 56, Turbo | GeForce GTX 1080 | |
Fire Strike, 1920×1080 | 18068 | 20065 | 20011 | 21849 |

Fire Strike Ultra, 3840×2160 | 4168 | 4712 | 4795 | 5124 |
As you can see from the table, synthetic tests, by and large, equate the new product with its competitor from AMD. Next, let’s look at the test results in various demanding games.
Testing GeForce GTX 1070 Ti in games
The following configuration was used for testing:
- Intel Core i7-6700K processor
- ASUS Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard
- G.Skill RAM 16 GB
- SSD Plextor PX-256M6Pro
- Corsair AX1500i power supply
- operating system Windows 10 64 Bit
- NVIDIA GeForce driver version: 388.13
In brackets in the table for comparison is the result of testing the video card AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 Turbo (1471/1600 MHz, 8 GB) with the same settings in the game. Testing of video cards with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 was carried out with the “anti-aliasing” parameter disabled. All games have average FPS.
Despite the fact that in some games the AMD video accelerator shows a slightly better result, in particularly demanding gaming applications, the NVIDIA adapter still takes the lead. The advantage is especially noticeable in The Witcher 3 and GTA 5. If we compare the new product with the younger GTX 1070, then the gaming advantage of the model with the “Ti” suffix reaches 15%.
Conclusion
Did NVIDIA learn a decent response from the Radeon RX Vega 56? Definitely yes. Of course, the base performance of the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti does not differ enough to declare it the leader peremptorily. But the overclocking potential of the new model is simply gorgeous. If the RX Vega 56 can overclock almost to the level of the GTX 1080, then the new graphics card from NVIDIA is capable of more. One of the key points in the struggle for the market of these two competing video cards will, of course, be the price. And it will be especially interesting to watch the cost of models from NVIDIA partners.
