Geforce RTX 3080 turns one year old – are you still waiting for your card?

On September 16, 2020 at 15:00, we published our test of the Geforce RTX 3080, the first card from Nvidia’s new Ampere-based series. In the headline, we wrote “an unusually large performance life” and even though not everyone agreed, it was difficult to argue who the new lord was.

The next day, September 17 at 15:00, the sale of the new graphics cards started. Although the supply of graphics card launches is not always brilliant, it was clear at an early stage that demand and supply were unusually extreme. So extreme that we have seen threads where members have had to wait up to 345 days for their order.

The long waiting times also inspired the t-shirt “Graphics card travesty”, in which it is possible to fill in how long you have waited to spend your money on a graphics card. A big factor has of course been which specific model of RTX 3080 was ordered, but even for those who have been flexible in their choice, RTX 3080 has been among the most difficult-to-access graphics cards we have seen so far.
