Graphics cards became almost 10 percent more expensive in October

It has hardly escaped anyone that the latest generation of graphics cards sell like hot cakes and that supply can not meet demand at all. The products fly off the storage shelves despite prices that are far above those that AMD and Nvidia promised at launch. At regular intervals, the German 3Dcenter takes a closer look at the price development, which has been steadily pointing upwards since the middle of the year.

Now the technology site announces that the period between 10 and 31 October is not an exception, and in addition that the price increases have accelerated slightly. With this it is clear that Nvidia-signed cards are on average at the same levels as in February, while AMD is in line with April. Specifically, the latter means an average sales price 101 percent above recommended, while Nvidia averages 88 percent higher.

The compilation from 3Dcenter refers to the German market, but also only the oldest variants from the “Ampere” and RDNA 2 series. This includes Geforce RTX 3090, RTX 3080, RTX 3070, RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3060, while on the AMD side these are Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT, RX 6800 and RX 6700 XT. Thus, Nvidia’s semi-fresh Ti models shine with their absence, just like the Radeon RX 6600 XT. The data points are based on German retailers’ lowest sales prices and the ratio to the recommended level.

Earlier in the autumn, it was reported that an even leaner supply of graphics circuits and components would drive up the declining price tags again, which is in line with the results. As a percentage, the price increase seen since October 10 is 9.8 percent for Radeon cards, while the Geforce increase remains at 9.3 percent. Compared to the relatively low prices from the high summer, graphics cards are on average 31.4 and 25.3 percent more expensive now.

Finally, 3Dcenter points out how graphics cards are priced for more powerful models, where for example the Radeon RX 6800 was sold more expensive than the Radeon RX 6900 XT. The exact figures can not be used to directly describe the Swedish market, but still give an indication of the upward price trends. It remains to be seen when the graphics cards will drop to the target price level. Companies such as Nvidia predict that supply will also be meager in 2022, which is why reductions are likely to be delayed.
