GTX 1660 Ti vs RTX 2060: Which is Best? – Performance in comparison
The release of the GTX 1660 Ti has created some confusion in the public: the new NVIDIA video card, in fact, is the first Turing without the wording, and the features, RTX. Many users therefore began to wonder if it was worth spending more money for an RTX, or if the new GTX 1660 Ti could easily satisfy their needs. In this article we will try to answer this question, comparing the GTX 1660 Ti with the RTX 2060 to give you an idea of which video card is best for you. To move quickly in the different sections, you can use the index of the article that you find just below.
GTX 1660 Ti vs RTX 2060: Comparison of technical data sheets and features
Let’s start by comparing the data sheets of the two GPUs, already reading them you can notice the differences that we will deepen in more detail during the article.

|VRAM:||6 GB GDDR6||6GB GDDR6|
|Memory Speed:||12 Gbps||14 Gbps|
RTX VS GTX: Feature a confronto
Although they are both based onTuring architecture, the GTX 1660 Ti and the RTX 2060 are quite different. The GTX 1660 Ti lacks RT core units and Tensor cores, instead present in the RTX 2060. What does this mean in practice? It means that the GTX 1660 Ti does not support real time ray tracing (RTX) and deep learning super sampling (DLSS), two very interesting technologies even if not yet fully exploited: to date there are few games that use them.
In short: Ray tracing allows you to have a much more realistic lighting of the scenes, significantly improving image quality. However, this improvement also leads to a not negligible deterioration in performance, it is hoped that over time it will be improved to reduce the cost in terms of performance. DLSS is essentially a new, smarter anti-aliasing method: in practice this translates into better performance than old anti-aliasing methods, without degrading image quality. The first uses of these two new technologies were not the best, both in Metro Exodus and Battlefield 5 the problems were different, but we are talking about still immature features that need to be given time to develop properly.
GTX 1660 Ti vs RTX 2060: Benchmark
As you can see from the graphs below, both video cards are perfect for 1080p gaming, even using maximum settings. The RTX 2060 is on average 15% more powerful than the GTX 1660 Ti, but given the price difference between the two GPUs, around € 70, we expected this difference in performance.
The RTX 2060 also allowed us to test Ray tracing in Metro Exodus, so as to find out how this video card supports this new technology. Unfortunately, in its current state, ray tracing is just too heavy, for the RTX 2060 it is difficult to handle it in an already demanding game like Metro Exodus.
GTX 1660 Ti vs RTX 2060 – Conclusion: Which is Best?
Choosing the best between the GTX 1660 Ti and the RTX 2060 is not easy, each has its pros and cons which become more or less important depending on what you want from a video card: the GTX 1660 Ti is definitely the ideal solution if you are not interested in DLSS and Ray tracing and you want to spend around € 300, on the contrary the RTX 2060 is perfect if you can spend € 70-80 more and you want to try the latest technologies. We recommend the GTX 1660 Ti because DLSS and Ray tracing are features that will be well exploited in years, when new RTX GPUs more performing than the 2060 will probably already be released, so it’s not worth spending more for them now. Clearly the RTX 2060 remains the best choice if you can spend 70-80 € more and you want better performance than the GTX 1660 Ti.
