Hoonitruck pickup with the largest 3D printed air intake

Advertising your new pickup with a world record, which was achieved during its production, is of course a great marketing gimmick, which will be turned a blind eye by the vast majority of people who will look into the subject more closely. However, Ford did not excel in the cheap trick of boosting sales, because its newest Hoonitruck pickup is a unique item created especially for Ken Block, a rally driver.

Ford is no exception in the market as 3D printing in the automotive industry has now spread for good. However, it is Ford that is currently (or at least believes so) the record holder in terms of the largest 3D-printed element used in the automotive industry. The Hoonitruck Work Truck is not only the star of Ken Block’s latest music video in Gymkhana 10, but also in Forza Horizon 4 games.

However, it is not something made from scratch, as it is based on a 1977 Ford F-150, and under the hood it is greeted by an engine from the Ford GT. It was a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine, whose dizzying 900 horsepower required the production of an enormous intake manifold that feeds six cylinders with turbocharged air. Hence the recent collaboration between the Ford Performance Engineers division and the RWTH Aachen’s Digital Additive Production Institute team in Germany.
