Apple AirPods are everywhere, or so it seems. But did you know that these almost ubiquitous earbuds can also connect to far more devices than an iPhone or Mac? Additional setup may be required, but if you want to connect AirPods with other phones or even some game consoles, that’s possible. AirPods use Bluetooth for wireless connectivity, but they also use Apple’s proprietary H1 chip. To put it simply, this means that devices like iPhones and iPads support all the features found in AirPods while other devices are quite limited. However, because they are Bluetooth, basic audio streaming is possible to a wide variety of devices.

How to connect AirPods to iPhone
Connecting the AirPods to your iPhone is probably the simplest syncing procedure possible, thanks to the H1 chip. First, make sure you’re using the latest version of iOS, after which it’s easy. Make sure your iPhone is unlocked and on the Home screen. Open the charging case with the AirPods still inside and place them next to your iPhone. A window will open on your iPhone where you need to tap “Connect”. Depending on your AirPods model and the settings on your iPhone, you may also see a guide for setting up the “Hey Siri” feature.
How to connect AirPods to iPad
The process for connecting AirPods to iPad is quite similar to connecting to iPhone. Make sure the Bluetooth function is turned on in the Settings app’s Bluetooth menu, then follow the same steps as above.
How to connect AirPods to Mac
Macs and the entire Apple ecosystem work well with AirPods. Connecting AirPods to Mac is also pretty simple. In fact, if you’ve got everything signed in with the same Apple ID, they might be ready to use right away. Click the volume control or Bluetooth buttons in the menu bar and if you see the AirPods listed, they are ready to use, you just have to select them. Don’t worry if that’s not the case, it’s still quite simple to sync them.
Select “System Preferences” from the Apple menu, then click “Bluetooth”. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on. With both AirPods in the charging case, open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until the light flashes white. On your Mac, choose your AirPods from the “Devices” list and then click “Connect”. If the audio doesn’t play in the earphones immediately, you may need to click the volume control or the Bluetooth menu in the menu bar and make sure the AirPods have been set as the output device.

How to connect AirPods to PC
Things get a little more complicated once you venture beyond Apple’s computing ecosystem, so connecting the AirPods to your Windows PC might be a little more complicated. However, it should be relatively simple as they will appear as a Bluetooth device. To sync AirPods with PC, follow these steps.
Open the Bluetooth menu in the bar start and make sure Bluetooth is turned on. With both AirPods in the charging case, open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until the light flashes white. Select the AirPods in the list of available Bluetooth devices. Keep in mind that you get far fewer features on your PC when using AirPods. There’s no access to Siri, no automatic switching between devices, and these headsets only support SBC and AAC Bluetooth codecs.
How to connect AirPods to Android phone
We don’t recommend using AirPods with an Android phone for many reasons. However, if you really need to use them or it’s the only option available, it’s possible. Follow these steps to connect AirPods with Android. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on in Settings> Connections> Bluetooth. With both AirPods in the charging case, open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until the light flashes white. Select the AirPods in the list of available Bluetooth devices.
How to connect AirPods to Chromebook
Connecting your AirPods to your Chromebook is basically the same process as any non-Apple device. In the Chromebook menu, click “Bluetooth”. Your Chromebook will automatically search for new devices. With both AirPods in the charging case, open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until the light flashes white. Select the AirPods in the list of available Bluetooth devices.

How to connect AirPods to PS 4 or PS 5
To connect your AirPods to PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 there is a problem to be solved because neither of them supports Bluetooth audio. In fact, it’s probably best to use a dedicated gaming headset. However, if you insist on using the AirPods with the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, you are not completely at a loss for options. The main caveat is that you will need to use an external dongle or adapter. We cannot guarantee these products as we have not tested them, but if you are willing to try them for yourself, you can find them here.
How to connect AirPods to Samsung
If your Samsung TV has Bluetooth, you can connect AirPods to it. However, the functionality of the earphones will be limited. Different Samsung TV models will vary in the steps required to sync Bluetooth devices, but in general it’s pretty straightforward. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your Samsung TV. With both AirPods in the charging case, open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until the light flashes white. Once the AirPods appear on the TV, select them to connect.
Why are the AirPods not connecting?
If your AirPods aren’t connecting to any of the above devices, your AirPods are likely to need a quick restart. Here is our step by step guide. With the earbuds still in the case, open the lid. Keep the earbuds in the case and open the Bluetooth settings on your iOS device. Next to “AirPods”, click on the small “i” icon.
Click on the text “Forget this device”, then click on “Confirm”. The phone has disconnected from the AirPods. Now you need to move on to resetting the AirPods. With the case lid open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for approximately 15 seconds (or until the LED light flashes amber). Now the AirPods have been fully reset and you can pair them back to new devices as if they just came out of the box.
